Three-car crash
A Portland man was injured in a head-on collision Wednesday on U.S. 27 near county road 500 North in Bearcreek Township.
Trent J. Buschur, 42, 331 Kenneth Drive, St. Henry, Ohio, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling north on U.S. 27 and slowed the 2008 Chevrolet utility van he was driving to turn into a driveway. The van slid on the ice- and snow-covered road crossing the center line.
Mark D. Limbert, 38, 1141 Meadow Lane, Portland, said he was traveling south on U.S. 27 in his 1992 Dodge Dakota when the van crossed the center line, and the vehicles struck head-on.
The Dakota continued west after the crash, striking a 2010 Lincoln Navigator parked in a private drive, causing the SUV to go through a chain link fence.
Limbert had minor bleeding from the face as a result of the crash.
The van is registered to Buschurs Leasing, 541 N. Eastern Ave., Saint Henry, Ohio.
The Navigator is registered to Ryan L. Hurt, 4486 E. 800 North, Bryant.
Damage in the 9:25 a.m. accident is estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Backing accident
A Pennville man’s car backed into another vehicle today in the parking lot of Jay County High School, 2072 W. Indiana 67.
Tony L. Geesaman, 37, 6627 Walnut Corner Road, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was backing out of a parking spot in front of the school and did not see a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica parked at the curb, striking it with his 2005 Ford Crown Victoria.
The Pacifica is registered to Michael W. McFarland, 721 W. Arch St., Portland.
Damage in the 7:35 a.m. accident is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Ran off road
A Dunkirk man’s van went off Indiana 67 at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday in Greene Township.
Roger E. Adkins, 52, 3395 S. 1150 West, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling southwest on Indiana 67 near county road 200 South. He said he lost control of his 2004 Mazda because the road was covered in ice and went off to the west side of the road into a ditch.
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Went off road
A Bryant woman’s car went off county road 700 East at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday in Wabash Township.
Ruth A. Wendel, 73, 8808 N. 750 East, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling north on county road 700 East near county road 800 North when she lost control of her 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, causing the vehicle to go into a ditch on the west side of the road and strike a mailbox.
Damage in the crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Off road crash
A Portland woman’s car went off U.S. 27 Wednesday in Wayne Township.
Norma J. Best, 53, 1221 S. Wayne St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was heading south on U.S. 27 near county road 300 North when she lost control of her 2001 Chrysler LHS because of the ice and snow-covered roadway. The LHS went into the ditch on the west side of the road and hit a fence post.
Damage in the 10:45 a.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Backing collision
A Portland man’s truck was backed into Thursday at Circle K, 729 S. Meridian St., Portland.
David L. Lambert, 816 W. Arch St., told a Portland police officer he went into Circle K to pay for gas when a witness came into the station to tell him another driver in a Honda backed into his 1997 Chevrolet truck and drove away.
The Chevy is registered to David L. and Susan M. Lambert.
Damage in the 11:22 a.m. crash is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Stolen rings
A Portland woman reported her rings stolen at 4:24 p.m. Thursday.
Tina M. Fisher, 920 W. Arch St., told a Portland police officer two of her rings were stolen from inside her home sometime since Christmas Eve.
A class ring worth $175 and a 14-karat princess cut engagement ring with a gold band valued at $350 were taken.
