Hit while parked
A 1998 Chevrolet Malibu sustained between $1,000 and $2,500 when it was struck while parked on Second Street near Shank Street in Portland.
Kent Jenkins, 216 W. Second St., reported the accident to Portland police about 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Jenkins told police that he noticed on Thursday that the car was parked at an angle but did not discover the damage until Saturday.
The car is registered to Amber L. Jenkins, same address.
Dog struck
Dylan J. Rose, 18, 8646 E. 500 North, told Jay County police he was northbound on county road 850 East near road 500 North about 9:15 a.m. Saturday when a dog ran into the path of the 2008 Pontiac he was driving. He was unable to avoid striking the animal.
The car, registered to Leonard J. Muhlenkamp, 8646 E. 500 North, sustained damage estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Two deer accidents
Two Jay County drivers struck deer that ran into the roadway Sunday.
Michael E. Shannon, 69, 3794 E. 800 North, told Jay County police he was eastbound on Indiana 67 near road 550 East about 7:15 a.m. when a deer jumped into the path of his 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. Damage to the SUV was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
About 12:05 p.m. Brenda E. Eads, 63, 6692 S. U.S. 27, was southbound on U.S. 27 in a 2009 Pontiac Vibe when a deer ran into the path of her vehicle. Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Wal-Mart theft
Wal-Mart, 950 W. Votaw St, Portland, reported at 12:58 p.m. Sunday that an iPhone 6S Plus had been stolen.
Check fraud
Jared W. Guntle, 521 N. Pleasant St., Portland, informed Portland police he had been told two different people have attempted to use a check of his worth $50 at Marsh, 218 W. Lincoln Ave., Portland. He contacted police at 4:35 p.m. Saturday.
