The Chiefs will play for the conference championship.
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team beat county rival West Jay 26-12 in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament semifinal Wednesday at East Jay.
The championship game is 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Southern Wells.
A strong first quarter got the Chiefs ahead 11-3 over the Eagles in the first quarter. East Jay pushed the advantage to 15-5 at half, and was not able to pull away in the third quarter as both teams scored five points.
But the Eagles had a difficult time finding the bottom of the net during the fourth quarter. East Jay outscored the visitors 6-2 in the final period for the semifinal victory.
Mikele Suman, Macey Weitzel and Taylor May all had eight points to lead East Jay. Hannah James also contributed with two points.
West Jay stats were not available.

Chiefs bow out
BLUFFTON — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams bowed out of the ACAC tournament Wednesday with semifinal losses to Bluffton.
The host Tigers beat the eighth grade Chiefs 47-38, and the East Jay seventh graders fell 29-20.
Noah Arbuckle led the EJMS eighth graders with 11 points, and Brian Williams followed with nine points. Cameron Henry tallied six points, with Gabe Link and Brayden Sprunger adding five points apiece. Sheldon Upp finished with two points.
Landon Grimes had 16 points for the seventh grade Chiefs. Brody Auker and Bailey Cox chipped in with two points each.
