Felony court news

Nonsupport
Scott J. Patterson, 48, Loveland, Ohio, pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to nonsupport of a dependant child, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to 18 months in Jay County Jail with all but 26 days suspended, given 26 days credit for 13 days served, assessed court costs of $183 and pay restitution of at least $50 per week to Tracy Fields. He was placed on formal probation for 17 months.

Probation violation
Christopher M. Batt, address unavailable, violated the terms of his probation imposed June 10, 2015, after a conviction in Jay Superior Court of nonsupport of a dependent child, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to serve an additional 180 days of his 18-month sentence and given 104 days credit for 52 days served.
Handgun
Ricky E. Spears II, Anderson, violated the terms of his probation imposed after a conviction of carrying a handgun without a license, a Level 5 felony. He was sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction, received credit for initial home detention and will continue to serve probation upon release from incarceration. His probation has been reduced by one year.

Possession of meth
Nyree N. Lewis, 35, Portland, possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to two and a half years in the Department of Correction with all of the sentenced suspended, given credit from the day of arrest, assessed court costs of $183, ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse fee of $400 and placed on formal probation for two and a half years. As part of the plea agreement, charges of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of chemical reagents or precursors with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance and neglect of a dependent have been dismissed.

Damion M. Lewis, 36, Portland, possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to two and a half years in the Department of Correction with all of the sentence suspended, given credit from the day of arrest, assessed court costs of $183, ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse fee of $400 and placed on formal probation for two and a half years. As part of the plea agreement, charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance and neglect of a dependent have been dismissed.

Dealing
Johnathan A. Steed, 24, Portland, dealing methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. He was sentenced to four years in Indiana Department of Correction, given credit from Aug. 26 to Sept. 10, 2015, assessed court costs of $183, ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse fee of $400 and placed on formal probation for one year. As part of the plea agreement, a charge of possession of methamphetamine was dismissed.

Narcotics possession
Justin E. Bragg, 24, Portland, possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail, with all but 30 days suspended, given four days credit for two days served, fined $100, assessed court costs of $183 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse program fee of $400.

OWI
Lew E. Wingler, 73, Geneva, battery against a public safety official, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 60 days suspended, given two days credit for one day served with the remaining 58 days to be served on electronically monitored home detention, assessed court costs of $183.50, fined $100 and ordered to pay an alcohol and drug countermeasures fee of $200 and a substance abuse program fee of $400. His sentence will be served concurrently with a charge for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Level 6 felony. As part of the plea agreement, charges of battery against a public safety official and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of 0.15 percent or more have been dismissed.
