Brevini Wind to close up shop
Brevini Wind will close its doors in Delaware County at the end of August.
The company, which makes large gearbox units for wind turbines, made the announcement this week.
About 20 remaining employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closing.
But Brevini’s other Delaware County operation — Brevity USA — will continue, employing about 40 people.
Brevini Wind opened in 2010 and was originally expected to create more than 400 jobs, but the wind energy business never developed as envisioned.
Deal approved
The Federal Trade Commission has given its approval to the sale of eight U.S. aluminum can plants by Ball Corporation to Ardagh Group, parent company of Dunkirk’s glass container plant.
The sale of the eight plants allows Ball Corporation to go forward with its planned $8.4 billion acquisition of Rexam PLC.
Ball is the No. 1 U.S. aluminum can manufacturer, and Rexam is No. 2. The FTC had believed that the deal would seriously lessen competition unless Ball sold eight of its plants.
The plants being sold are in Chicago; Fairfield, California; Whitehouse, Ohio; Fremont, Ohio; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Bishopville, South Carolina; Olive Branch, Mississippi; and Valparaiso, Indiana.
CVS settlement
CVS has reached a $3.5 million settlement with the federal government in connection with an investigation that found pharmacists in Massachusetts and New Hampshire filled hundreds of forge prescriptions for painkillers.
