Cahokia author to speak in Fort Recovery
Taking Note
Fort Recovery State Museum will have a special speaker at 3 p.m. July 17 at Fort Recovery Nazarene Family Center, 401 E. Boundary St.
Archaeologist William Iseminger, author of “Cahokia Mounds, America’s First City,” will speak about his book.
Iseminger serves as site manager of Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, located across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.
Wins scholarship
Saedie Hawbaker, a 2016 South Adams High School graduate, was recently awarded the IUPUI Bepko Scholars and Fellows Scholarship.
The scholarship is given to students who demonstrate integrity, dedication, leadership and a commitment to service.
Hawbaker will receive tuition for four years, a $2,500 stipend for a study abroad experience, two years of on-campus housing and book expenses.
She is the daughter of Chris and Jesse Hawbaker.
Kid’s event
Kid-O-Rama will be held at the Muensterberg Clock Tower in Berne from 6 to 8 p.m. July 16.
There will be a bounce house, an inflatable maze, a balloon artist, carnival and yard games, prizes and a splash pad.
Dean’s list
A number of local students were named to the dean’s list at their respective colleges.
At Ball State University, Adrienne Pursley of Geneva was named to the spring dean’s list.
Zane Shreve of Redkey and Fort Recovery’s Melissa Knapke were placed on the dean’s list for the second semester at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Portland native Leslie Schubert was named to the dean’s list at Indiana State University for the spring semester.
Fort Recovery students Trent Dues, Ryan Gaerke, Alexandra Ontrop and Kent Stammen were named to the spring semester dean’s list at THe Ohio State University.
Pool party
Participants of the Fort Recovery Public Library Summer Reading Program are invited to a party at 4:30 p.m. July 20, at Ambassador Pool.
There will be hot dogs, chips, drinks and door prizes in the shelter house, with swimming to begin at 6 p.m.
