Tankers achieve perfect season
Jay to host conference meet on July 16
WINCHESTER — For the fourth consecutive year, the swimmers are perfect.
The Jay County Summer Swim Team achieved perfection yet again on Thursday, closing an undefeated regular season with a 1,388-358 victory against the Randolph County Sharks.
Jay County has not lost a dual meet since 2012.
A total of eight swimmers paced Jay County by winning three events apiece. Maddy Snow and George Clemmons did so in the 8-and-younger division. Snow was first in the 100-yard individual medley, 25 breaststroke and 25 freestyle, while Clemmons earned wins in the 25 butterfly, 25 backstroke and 100 IM.
In the 9-10-year-old age group, Joseph Dow won the 25 butterfly, 100 IM and 25 breaststroke, and Mara Bader beat the competition in the 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke while competing in the 11-12-year-old division.
Griffin Man was the lone triple-event winner in the 13-14-year-old age group, finishing first in the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle races.
Sophie Bader, Anne Vormohr and Sok Vormohr each won three events in the 15-and-older division. Bader picked up victories in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, while cousin Anne Vormohr was first in the 100 backstroke, 200 IM and 50 freestyle. Sok Vormohr touched the wall ahead of the other swimmers in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle.
Nine swimmers won two events apiece, including Sophie Hoevel (8-and-younger – 50 freestyle and 25 butterfly), Sophie Saxman (9-10-year-old – 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke), Creed Beiswanger (9-10-year-old – 25 freestyle and 50 freestyle), Elayna Paro (11-12-year-old – 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle) and Ben Nichols (11-12-year-old – 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke).
Also earning two victories apiece were Ashlyn Dow (13-14-year-old – 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke), Lillian Clemmons (13-14-year-old – 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke), Eliza Bader (13-14-year-old – 200 IM and 50 breaststroke) and Juan Wiggins (13-14-year-old – 100 freestyle and 200 IM).
Picking up single victories were Jesse Brown, Hannah Laux, Dorane Beiswanger, Konner Sommers, Nico Minnich, Josh Monroe, Justice Murphy, Jason Minnich, Christopher McDowell and Luke Nichols.
