NCGLNAC to hold art classes

The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture will have its 16th Annual NCGLNAC Summer Cultural Arts Classes at Jay County Fairgrounds.
The classes explore the arts, crafts, traditions and culture of Great Lakes Native Americans through hands-on workshops and presentations by Native American tradition bearers, artisans and experts on Native American culture.
Classes for adults and children will be held July 30 and 31 and Aug. 1 and 2 in the Women’s Building. They will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. daily.
Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 30.

At the museum
The Jay County Historical Museum will have a program meeting at 6:30 p.m. on July 26. Jay County residents, or those affiliated with Jay County, who are 100 years old or older, will be honored.
Meat, drinks and table service will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish.
An open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. Hand-blown glassware made by Monte Dunlavy, Jay County advertising fans and thermometers from the collection of Cheryl Martin Myers and Pennville memorabilia from Daniel Denhart-Lillard will be on display.
Bicentennial merchandise is available at the museum, including commemorative Jay County medallions, Jay County t-shirts and caps, and bracelets and key rings made by Dunkirk resident J.T. Phillips.

The museum is located at 903 E. Main St. in Portland.

Art show
The 2016 Juried Art Show will begin July 25 at Blackford County Center of Arts Place and continue through Sept. 8.
An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 29, with awards presented at 6:30 p.m.
The high school artwork silent auction will be on July 29 and 30.
The center is located on 107 W. Washington St. in Hartford City. The hours are Monday, Thursday and the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday, and 3 to 7 p.m. each Wednesday.

President’s list
Kelsey Fiely, Fort Recovery, was named to the spring quarter president’s list at the University of Northwestern, Ohio.
