Centenarians to be honored
Taking Note
Jay County residents, or those affiliated with Jay County who are 100 years old or older, will be honored at the Jay County Historical Society program meeting at 6:30 p.m. on July 26.
The meeting will be held at the historical museum at 903 E. Main St. in Portland. Meat, drinks and table service will be provided and everyone attending is asked to bring a covered dish.
Also an open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the museum. Hand-blown glassware made by Monte Dunlavy, Jay County advertising fans and thermometers from the collection of Cheryl Martin Myers and Pennville memorabilia from Daniel Denhart-Lillard will be on display.
The Portland Foundation’s campaign continues to help grow endowments for JCHS.
Matching grants from $2,500 to $10,000 will be available for every $1 raised to help pay for operating expenses of the museum.
For more information, call Doug Inman at (260) 726-4260.
Bicentennial merchandise is available at the museum, including commemorative Jay County medallions, Jay County t-shirts and caps, and bracelets and key rings made by Dunkirk resident J.T. Phillips.
For more information, call the museum at (260) 726-7168.
Bluegrass jamboree
The second of three Limberlost Bluegrass Jamborees will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva.
Former site manager Randy Lehman will be the emcee for the jamborees.
Lehman retired this month after serving for 17 years as manager of the Limberlost State Historic Site.
He was honored recently and given a letter from Gov. Mike Pence and a framed Indiana state flag.
Foundation news
The Portland Foundation recently donated $1,500 to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry for its “Meat” the Need program.
The money will be used to help pay processing fees for approximately 1,200 pounds of meat that was donated in Jay County. The meat will then be given to area hunger relief agencies.
For more information on the program, visit www.HoosiersFeedingtheHungry.org.
The Foundation’s campaign continues to help grow endowments for not-for-profit organizations in Jay County.
