Blood drive set at JCC

Taking Note

Friends and family of Rachel (Osterholt) Theurer are hosting an American Red Cross blood drive in her memory and for new mothers who experience birth complications.
It will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Jay Community Center in Portland.
Theurer died on Nov. 11, 2015, after giving birth to her first child William Harold Theurer from a complication called amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) or anaphylactoid symptom of pregnancy.
Theurer and her family, who have been regular blood donors in the past, hope to increase awareness about the rare condition by hosting the blood drive. She had received 20 pints in an effort to save her life.
“Hosting this blood drive in her name is a wonderful way to honor Rachel and help new mothers who may need transfusions after giving birth,” said Jeri Garringer, who is account manager for the Red Cross.
To schedule an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
