MUNCIE — Nick Hayden has had a tough season.
He’s only scored once for his team, and that was during the conference tournament.
Tuesday, he capped the regular season schedule by posting his team’s best score.
Hayden, a Jay County High School junior, shot a 4-over par 39 in leading the Patriot boys golf team to a 161-182 victory over the Daleville Broncos at Crestview Golf Club.
He edged classmate Jay Houck by one stroke. Brothers Collin and Graham Haines tied with 41 to complete the Patriots’ team score.
Kyler Hudson and Spencer Calvert also competed, and they scored 44 and 51 respectively.
Jay County returns to the course on Monday for the sectional tournament at Hickory Hills Golf Club in Parker City. The Patriots tee off at 9:50 a.m.
Schemenaur shines
Drew Shemenaur hit for the cycle and scored five times in leading All Circuit Electrical to a 17-10 victory over Pak-A-Sak in Rookie baseball division of Portland Junior League.
He was 5-for-5 with two singles. Grant Wendel and Jayden Harrell were both 5-for-5 as well.
Wendel scored four runs and Harrell crossed the plate three times.
Braden O’Brien was 3-for-3 with three runs in leading Pak-A-Sak. Eli Stockton added three hits, including a triple, and had two runs. Alex Miller also notched three hits and one run.
Trio lead Barnett’s
Three players combined for nine hits and six RBIs as Barnett’s Auto Parts defeated Williams Auto Parts 9-6 in PJL’s Rookie baseball division.
Cavan Hartzell, Boston Barnett and Sylas Wenk all had a double and two singles. Hartzell drove in two runs and scored three times. Barnett notched three RBIs and one run, and Wenk scored twice to go with his RBI. Benson Barnett also had a double and a single.
Joe Geesaman hit two home runs in the loss for Williams, and Wesley Wenning also had a round-tripper. Izzy McAbee recorded a double and two singles, while Dawson Goldsworthy and Carter Hartman each added singles.
