Jayhawks earn tournament title

NOBLESVILLE — One tournament, one title.
The Jay County Jayhawks 11-and-younger travel baseball team went 5-0 to take first place last weekend at the All American Slugfest at Noblesville Field of Dreams Baseball Complex.
The Jayhawks, made up of a dozen Jay County residents, defeated the Web Stars 19-0 and Lebanon in pool play on Saturday.
Jay County then outlasted the Noblesville Gold squad 6-5 in the tournament quarterfinal Sunday afternoon before a 14-4 victory over Brownsburg Baseball Club in the semifinal.
In the title game, Jay County edged Midwest Adrenaline 8-7.
Team members include Josh Dowlen, Dawson Hundley, Sam Myers, Dusty Pearson, Blake Bogenschutz, Parker Nichols, Dylan Garringer, Mason Ludy, Jackson Ervin, Zac McAbee and Koby Lewellen.
The Jayhawks are coached by Nathan Myers, and assistants are Rod Nichols, Marc Bogenschutz and Mitch Ervin.

Williams wins
Williams Auto Parts picked up a 20-16 victory Thursday against Pak-A-Sak in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball division.
Joe Geesaman, Carter Hartman and Izzy McAbee were all 4-for-4. Geesaman tallied three RBIs and McAbee totaled three singles, with Hartman adding four runs. Dawson Goldsworth scored three runs and Wes Wenning blasted a triple.

Braden O’Brien had five hits and Eli Stockton recorded for in the losing effort for Pak-A-Sak. Aryan Montes had a triple, Freddie Lingo clubbed a double and Tucker Snipes had three singles.

Pioneer rolls
Pioneer Packaging kept its perfect record intact Thursday with a 17-2 win over Ponderosa Steakhouse in Portland Junior League’s Rookie division.
Dominick Bright, Maddox Huffman, Jayden Comer and Sam Wiggins each had four hits, with Bright and Huffman recording two triples apiece. Bentley Comer and Carson Busick added three hits apiece.
Gavin Byrum tallied two triples for Ponderosa, which also got a pair of hits each from Grant Fennig and Andrew Myers.

Wenk leads
Bryce Wenk paced MainSource Bank at the plate Thursday in an 8-4 win over Minnich Poultry in Portland Junior League Willie Mays baseball.
Wenk had a triple, a double and an RBI to lead MainSource. Cody Rowles drove in two runs with a triple, and Kenny Carducci, Brady Davis and Austin Curtis each had a double and an RBI. Rowles also struck out seven in three innings on the mound.
Isaac Miller finished with a double and two RBIs for Minnich, and Dusty Pearson struck out nine in three innings.
