Five Starfires named all-ACAC in softball

It took a complete team effort for the Starfires to win a conference title and the school’s first girls regional championship.
Their players were rewarded accordingly.
Five South Adams High School softball players were given All-Allen County Athletic Conference honors this morning.
One Patriot was honored for her play on the diamond.
Katelin Augsburger, a junior, and senior Keirstyn Grimm were both first-team All-ACAC honorees. Augsburger set a new school record for 18 wins as a pitcher, and Grimm anchored the outfield for a team that shared a conference championship and won sectional and regional titles on its way to a program-best 23 victories.
Madison Morgan (catcher), Isabella Ramirez (infielder) and Abby Myers (outfield) were named second team all-conference players.
Chloe Trissel, a Jay County sophomore, was named second team as an infielder.
Pioneer still perfect
Pioneer Packaging kept its perfect record intact on Monday, defeating Barnett’s Auto Parts 20-7 in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball division.
Dominick Bright and Maddox Huffman were both 5-for-5 for Pioneer (8-0) Huffman hit two home runs, two triples and a double, while Bright ripped three singles and a triple. Jayden Comer had three doubles and Max Dues chipped in with two singles and a double.
Cavan Hartzell and Boston Barnett both hit home runs for Barnett’s, which also got a triple and a double from Sylas Wenk. Chase Baxter also smacked a double.
Schemenaur leads in win
Drew Schemenaur was 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBIs and four runs Monday as All Circuit Electrical defeated Ponderosa 17-3 in Rookie baseball action of Portland Junior League.
Shaun Harrell, Grant Wendel and Nick Laux were also 4-for-4. Harrel had a double, scored three times and drove in five runs. Laux blasted a triple and had one RBI. He and Wendel both reached home four times.
Gavin Byrum led Ponderosa, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs and an RBI. Gavin Tow chipped in with two RBIs on two singles, and Porter Clamme also had two hits.
MainSource no-hits PG-14
MainSource Bank didn’t allow a hit Monday in a 14-2 victory against PG-14 in PJL’s Willie Mays division.
Bryce Wenk, Kenny Carducci, Koby Lewellen and Jayden Hartzell combined to pitch the no-hitter.
Ryne Goldsworthy and Allen Dues both walked for PG-14, and came around to score the only runs.
Brady Davis led MainSource with two doubles, a pair of singles and six RBIs, and Lewellen chipped in with two RBIs on a pair of singles.
Harztell, Carducci and Wenk each had an RBI.
