Learn about geocaching

Taking Note

Bring the family to Jay County Public Library on Saturday to learn about geocaching.
Bruce and Jennifer Covey will present the program at 1 p.m. to teach the basics of geocaching and where to look for a cache hunt destination.
JayCPL Book Club will meet at the Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva at 6 p.m. on June 20 for a tour, presentation and discussion of the book “Freckles” by Gene Stratton Porter. The cost of the tour is $5.
Author Monica Miller will conduct a Writing & Publishing Workshop from 5 to 8 p.m. June 27 at the library. Registration is required and there will be a $10 charge for materials.
Tuesday’s activities will include playing with Legos all day and the Fitness Showcase will teach pound, zumba, tabata bootcamp and more at 6:30 p.m.
Teen programs continue on Thursday, June 16, with the Amazing Reading Race.
Get a passport and learn about reading your way around the world.
A book cart relay racing will be held on June 23.
Friday afternoon crafts will be held at 1 p.m. for elementary age children.
Sports visors will be made on Friday, a Father’s Day craft will be made on June 27, sand art pictures will be June 24 and TP roll ninjas will be July 1.
Programs for families will be at 11 a.m. each Monday in the Community Room. An obstacle course will be set up on June 13, My Plate-The Musical by Minnetrista Theatre Preserves will be the entertainment on June 20 and action bingo will round at the month on June 27.
Exercise with a DVD during Workout Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room on June 15, 22 and 29. A healthy snack will also be served.
Coloring for kids and teens will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 23.
A Mad Hatter Tea and Story Walk will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Hudson Family Park on South Wayne Street in Portland.
Enjoy a zany tea party in the amphitheater, then wind your way through the park to follow a story from beginning to end that includes activity stops.

Day camp offered
Ouabache State Park will host a Junior Indiana Master Naturalist Day Camp for children eight to 12 years old who want to learn more about nature.
The camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 16, and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 17.

Jubilee auction
Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Fort Recovery is sponsoring a Jubilee Quarter Auction during the Fort Recovery Harvest Jubilee to be held June 16 through 19.
The auction will be held at 7 p.m. on June 17 in the bingo tent. One to three quarters may be bid on auction items and more than 60 prizes will be given away.

Arts Place activities
The Portland Center of Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., will offer First Steps in Music for infants and children beginning Thursday, June 16 and will continue each Thursday through July 21.
Classes will be taught by LaVetha Loucks. Infants 10 to 23 months old will meet from 9 a.m. to 9:35 a.m.; those three and older will meet from 10 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. or 6 p.m. to 6:35 p.m.; four and five year-olds will meet from 11 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. or 7 p.m. to 7:35 p.m.
The cost is $60 and scholarships are available.
Arts in the Parks classes will also be held this summer in Dunkirk, Pennville, Portland, Redkey and Fort Recovery.

Dean’s list
Amelia Freeman, Portland, was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Anderson University. She is a sophomore majoring in music education.
