Clayton leads in two PJL victories

Jay County Monument earned two victories Friday in the Major softball division of Portland Junior League.
It swept a doubleheader with Graphic Printing, winning the first game 15-9 before taking the second 24-5.
Hannah Clayton had four hits and scored four times for Jay County Monument, which also got three singles and three runs from Drew Dressel. Annie Huftel scored three times to go with her two singles, and Kearston Myers added two hits and two runs.
Breanna Randall scored once and had two hits, and Brittany Mullins had a single and three runs. Mariah Gross and Jayden Claytor both had a hit and crossed the plate twice.
Gwen Butcher led Graphic Printing with 5 hits and two runs. Lita Chowning chipped in with three hits and four runs, while Kylie Morningstar and Natalie Miles had two hits and two runs apiece.

Bees drop two
In the Stinger division of Pennville Soccer League, the Bees dropped two games on Saturday.
They fell to the Hornets 12-4 before coming up short against the Wasps, 8-7.
Caden Buckley scored twice in the loss to the Hornets. Eli Barger and Olivia Ehrhart had one goal apiece.
Barger scored six times against the Wasps, and Linus Gipson tallied one goal.
Max McClain III led the Hornets with his eight-goal performance. Wiley Simos and Breck Smith chipped in with two goals apiece.
For the Wasps, Alexander Gaskill and Camden Vinson had two goals each.

Huffman nets nine
Maddox Huffman scored all nine of his team’s goals Saturday as the Comets won a pair of games in Pennville Soccer League’s Space division.
The Comets didn’t allow a goal in two games, defeating the Galaxy 7-0 and the Asteroids 2-0.
Huffman scored four times in the first half against the Galaxy, then added a hat trick in the second half to extend his team’s lead.
He tallied both of his goals against the Galaxy during the first half.

Tigers win two
Five players scored goals Saturday as the Tigers went 2-0 in the Wildcat division of Pennville Soccer League.
They defeated the Jaguars 4-1 before doubling up the Lions, 4-2.
Ian Ruiz scored three goals against the Jaguars, and Chloe Ruiz found the back of the net once in the game one victory.
Against the Lions, Trenton Bleeke, Dane Rector, Ilanna Schlichler and Ian Ruiz each had goals.
Brendon Runyon scored the lone goal for the Jaguars, and Alizabeth Stotler had both goals for the Lions.

Barnett’s falls, 9-3
Barnett’s Auto Parts dropped a 9-3 decision to All Circuit Electrical in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball division.
Benson Barnett had a double, a single and scored twice for Barnett’s. Sylas Wenk added three singles and a run.
Stats for All Circuit Electrical were not provided.

The following items are Pennville Soccer League results from June 4 that were inadvertantly omitted from publication last week.
Hornets win twice
In the second week of play in the Pennville Soccer League, the Hornets won a pair of games in the Stinger division.
Max McClain II scored nine goals in leading the Hornets to a 15-7 victory over the Bees. He added five more in a 7-5 victory against the Wasps.
Wiley Simos provided support for McClain, finding the back of the net six times against the Bees and twice versus the Wasps.
Eli Barger scored six goals to lead the Bees, who also got one tally from Caden Buckley.
Samuel Davidson had five goals in the losing effort for the Wasps.

Jaguars, Lions win
In the Wildcat division of Pennville Soccer League, the Jaguars and Tigers both earned victories against the Lions.
The Jaguars edged the Lions 5-4, and the Tigers won 10-7.
Brendon Runyon led the Jaguars with four goals, and Sheldon Minch chipped in with one.
Ian Ruiz scored a half dozen times for the Tigers. Mason Rector tallied two goals, with Trenton Bleeke and Ilanna Schlichter each finding the back of the net wice.
Kyler Witt scored twice for the Lions against the Jaguars. Alizabeth Stotler and Jonah Southworth both had one goal.
Against the Tigers, Madison Springer and Stotler both had three goals, and Witt added one.

Asteroids drop two
The Asteroids were held scoreless in two games in the Space division of Pennville Soccer League.
They dropped a 2-0 score to the Galaxy before falling 3-0 to the Comets.
Addison Gaskill and Joselyn Minch both scored second-half goals for the Galaxy, who were unable to find the back of the net in the first half.
Maddox Huffman netted all three goals for the Comets.
