Rockets bounce back from defeat
Portland Rockets
SOUTH BEND — The Rockets had their seven-game winning streak come to an end.
They rebounded with back-to-back victories.
The Portland Rockets split a doubleheader with the Mishawaka Brewers on Saturday. A 4-3 defeat snapped the Rockets’ winning streak, then a 4-3 victory in game two got Portland back in the win column.
On Sunday, the Rockets defeated the South Bend Cardinals 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was rained out.
Portland (11-3), which travels to Fort Wayne to play Northeast Kekionga at 7 p.m. Wednesday, had a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the opener against the Brewers. Dan Bollenbacher, a South Adams High School product who was 3-0 on the season, allowed three runs to Mishawaka in the frame and shouldered the loss.
Zach Tanner, a Yorktown native, propelled Portland to a victory in the second game, blasting a two-run home run, his fourth of the year. Dalton Tinsley launched a pair of doubles, Mitch Waters tallied three hits and recorded the save to preserve the win for Craig Martin, who had a one-hitter through four innings before giving the ball to Dan Borchers for the hold.
Tanner tallied two more hits on Sunday, with Alex Delk and Colin Affolder also recording a pair of hits.
