Backing accident
Two Portland residents were involved in an accident on Arch Street Tuesday afternoon while they attempted to back out of parking spaces.
Charles A. Wood, 54, 1065 E. 100 South, told Portland police he was backing up his 2003 Chevrolet 2CH Truck out of a parking spot on Arch Street, near Meridian Street, when it collided with a 2005 Buick Renedzvous.
Stacy J. Bennet, 39, 119 E. North St., was driving the Buick. She said she was also backing out of a parking space onto Arch Street when she collided with Wood’s vehicle.
Damage in the 3:20 p.m. collision is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Theft
A Portland man reported a theft on Tuesday. Clint Jordan, 203 W. Second St., said that someone stole a NAPA car battery out of a shed on his property. The theft occurred sometime in the past two weeks. Jordan told Portland police the battery cost $140.
In area courts
Two Geneva men recently settled cases in Adams County Superior Court.
Toy E. Everidge was found guilty of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. He was sentenced to one year in jail, with all suspended. A year of probation was also given to him.
Victor H. Hernandez pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor and operating a motor vehicle without receiving a license, a Class C misdemeanor. For count one, he received six month in jail, with all suspended. He received 30 days in jail for count two, to run concurrently. As part of his sentence, he will spend 335 days on probation upon release, must obtain counseling, and attend the program “Thinking for Good.”
