Tankers topple Titans

MUNCIE — The Jay County middle school boys and girls swim teams both picked up wins against the Muncie Northside Titans on Monday.
The girls squad won all 12 events in a 146-40 victory, and the boys claimed first place in three races and diving for a 102-77 victory.
Erica Hathaway and Eliza Bader each won a pair of individual events and helped two winning relay teams. Hathaway was first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 21.25 seconds, and also won the 500 freestyle in 6:18.6. Bader’s wins came in the 200 individual medley (2:25.81) and 100 butterfly (1:09.93).
They joined Lillian Lemmons and Ashlyn Dow to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:18.87. Bader teamed with Rieley Brewster, Emma James and Leah Hummel for a victory in the 200 medley relay (2:18.05), with Hathaway joining Elayna Paro, Hummel and Dow to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:00.7.
Also earning individual wins were Jenna Dunfee (100 freestyle – 1:10.65), Brewster (50 freestyle – 29.26), Hummel (diving – 101.8 points), Clemmons (100 backstroke – 1:14.2) and Dow (100 breaststroke – 1:16.06).
For the boys team, Justice Murphy, Konner Sommers and Ben Strausburg each finished first. Murphy won diving with a score of 83.1 points, Sommers claimed a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:29.98)?and Strausburg swam to a time of 1:28.5 to win the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Matthew Minnich, Samuel Crump, Tait Longsworth and Juan Pablo Wiggins won with a time of 2:11.59.
The girls team moved to 4-0 on the season while the boys improved to 2-2.
