Went off road
A Fort Recovery driver’s truck went off the road Thursday in Pike Township.
Christopher L. Thwaits, 44, 13829 Hillgrove Fort Recovery Road, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on county road 900 South near county road 300 North and went over a hill covered in thick ice. He began to slide and lose control of the 2001 Ford F250 he was driving. The truck left the roadway, and the trailer attached to the vehicle hit a tree and tore off the hitch. The Ford spun around and struck another tree before coming to a stop.
The Ford is registered to Beverly Thwaits, same address.
Damage in the 7:22 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Three-vehicle accident
Three drivers were involved in a crash Wednesday at the intersection of Indiana 67 and Tyson Road.
Mallory J. Marshall, 18, 941 W. North St, Portland, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling south on Indiana 67 near the Tyson Road intersection as several cars were pulling into the roadway. She slowed down to avoid the other vehicles and lost control because of ice on the road. The 2005 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving struck the driver’s side of a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, driven Aaron L. Clark, 32, 9733 W. 400 South, Redkey, and then spun 180 degrees hitting the front of a 2005 Subaru, driven by Eric A. Harrell, 55, 3500 N. Locust St, Muncie.
The Grand Am is registered to Don W. Marshall, same address.
Damage in the 7:56 a.m. collision is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
In area courts
Several residents were fined in Celina Municipal Court.
Stephen A. Merrill, 42, 1477 Philothea Road, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest to the amended charge of failure to maintain physical control. He was ordered to pay a $475 fine, attend alcohol school/counseling and pay court costs.
Also fined in the same court were Van E. Guntle, 47, Portland, speeding, $15; Delores R. Fullenkamp, 72, 2809 Erastus-Durbin Road, Fort Recovery, speeding, $15; Kenneth L. Green, 48, Portland, failure to wear a seatbelt, $30.
