Discussion of book to be at public library
Taking Note
As part of the Jay County Reads program at Jay County Public Library, the public is invited to read “Shakespeare Saved My Life: 10 years in solitary with the Bard” by Laura Bates. Discussion of the book will be held at 7 p.m. on March 21, at the library.
Bates will also visit the library at 7 p.m. on April 18 to talk about her experience teaching Shakespeare in a maximum security prison.
The author is a Professor of English at Indiana State University and has taught throughout the Indiana state prison system for more than 25 years and created the world’s first Shakespeare program for long-term solitary confinement units.
Copies of the book can be checked out or will be for sale at the library at 315 N. Ship St., Portland.

West Jay Middle School named its Students of the Month for February.
In sixth grade was Loretta Eicher, the daughter of Rosa and Toby Eicher; in seventh grade was Kaley Young, the daughter of Brittney Bost and Craig Young; in eighth grade was Brinnin Wasson, the son of Tabbi and Jeremy Wasson.

Ivy Tech representatives will visit the WorkOne Express Employment Center, 325 S. Oak St. in Winchester, from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday to discuss the college with perspective students.
