Capsule Reports

Adams accidents
A Geneva woman complained of pain after a 7:45 a.m. accident Wednesday at the intersection of Adams County roads 100 South and 000.
Shonna C. Grayson, 23, Geneva, attempted to avoid a collision with a pick-up truck driven by Gregory S. Ball, 20, Marion, that had slid into the intersection. The Grayson vehicle slipped into a ditch and rolled onto its side.
Combined damage to the two vehicles was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
About 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, Lisa K. Steiner, 37, Geneva, lost control of her car on snow-covered U.S. 27 near Indiana 124. Her vehicle slid into traffic and collided with the rear wheels of a tanker truck driven by Trisha M. Shoaf, 31, Decatur. The tanker truck then hit a third vehicle, driven by Derek L. Kirchhofer, 23, Berne.
Damage to the three vehicles was estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Wells mishaps
About 6:55 a.m. Thursday, a pick-up truck driven by William M. McKinney, 49, Portland, spun out of control on snow-covered Indiana 1 just north of Wells County road 700 South. The 2000 Toyota Tundra slid off the road and rolled onto its side in a ditch.
Damage was estimated at more than $2,500.
At 7:45 a.m. the same day, a pick-up truck driven by Amanda J. McCune, 29, rural Pennville, slid into the rear of a Southern Wells school bus on Wells County road 300 West. The bus was driven by Bruce A. Herr, 48, rural Warren, and had stopped to pick up a student.
Damage was estimated at more than $5,000.

Deer collision
A Hartford City man’s car hit a deer Sunday in Noble Township.
Douglas N. Atkinson, 35,107 Fairland Drive, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was heading east on county road 100 North near county road 500 East in his 2005 Dodge Neon when a deer ran onto the road. He said he could not avoid striking the animal.
Damage in the 9 p.m. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

Deer accident
A Pennville man struck a deer with his truck Monday evening in Penn Township.
Fred W. Miller, 53, 285 W. High St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on county road 300 North near county road 750 West when a deer ran onto the roadway. He said he could not avoid hitting the deer with his 2004 Ford F-150.

Damage in the 7:15 p.m. crash is estimate between $1,000 and $2,500.

Backing crash
Two Jay County drivers were involved in a backing accident Monday in the parking lot of Wal-mart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Victoria E. Bussell, 18, 206 W. Pearl St., Dunkirk, told a Portland police officer she was driving south down one of the rows in the Wal-mart parking lot in a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro when a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Robert A. Kibbey, 54, 130 Lagro St., Pennville, backed out of a parking spot and struck the passenger side of Bussell’s Camaro.
Damage in the 1 pm. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

Sideswipe
A Portland woman’s SUV was sideswiped by another driver’s vehicle Monday afternoon on Votaw Street near Industrial Park Drive in Portland.
Lori A. Fry, 52, 702 S. Western Ave., told a Portland police officer she turned onto Votaw Street from Industrial Park Drive and was traveling east on the road when a 1997 Chevrolet Venture, owned by Mary C. Bollinger, 88, 175 Interlaken Drive, Berne, pulled out in front of her. Fry said she tried to swerve out of the way in her 2009 Dodge Journey, but still was struck by the Venture.
Damage in the 12:10 p.m. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

In area courts
Brittany N. West, Pennville, entered a plea of guilty in Adams Superior Court to a charge of disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
She was received a six months suspended jail sentence, was placed on probation for one year, and must attend counseling.

Syringe found
A Portland resident reported at 12:06 p.m. Saturday finding a syringe near her property.
Daisy Shuba, 228 E. Elder St., told a Portland police officer she found a syringe lying by her trashcan.
The officer disposed of it.
