Jay Co., Starfire swim teams split

BERNE — Jay County’s middle school girls swim team won 11 events Tuesday in a 116-69 victory over South Adams.
The host Starfires edged Jay County in the boys meet, 94-91.
Erica Hathaway and Eliza Bader both won a pair of events and helped on two winning relay teams for Jay County. Hathaway was first in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100backstroke , with Bader winning both 50 and 100 freestyle sprints.
They teamed with Lillian Clemmons and Ashlyn Dow for a victory in the 200 medley relay, then joined Rieley Brewster and Clemmons for a win in the 200 freestyle relay.
Kaitlyn Hicks (100 individualmedley ), Leah Hummel (diving), Dow (50 butterfly ) and Brewster (400 freestyle) also had individual wins.
Jenna Dunfee, Brewster, Dow and Hummel teamed for a victory in the 300 freestyle relay.
Lexi Lahr claimed the only South Adams win, doing so in the 100 breaststroke.
Grady Sprunger and Trey Lehman were each double winners for the South Adams boys. Sprunger won the 100 IM and 100backstroke , with Lehman finishing first in 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Tyler Yoder (diving), Parker Collingsworth (50butterfly ) and Curtis Sprunger (100 breaststroke ) also won their respective events.
The Sprungers, Collingsworth and Lehman teamed for a victory in the 200 medley relay. Collingsworth and Lehman also joined Clancy McIntire and Isaac Gorell to win the 300 freestyle relay.
Juan Pablo Wiggins of Jay County won both the 200 and 400 freestyleevents, and anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay with Matthew Minnich, Chase McFarland and Ben Strausburg.
Eagles fall to Tigers
BLUFFTON — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team lost to the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday, 34-6.
Sean Ashley, a 125-pounder, accounted for all six of West Jay’s points. He pinned Bobby Malcolm during the first period.
Gage Baker, Carter Mitchell and Ashley each won exhibition matches.
