POINT OUTLOOK, Missouri — Kegan Comer is a win away from playing for a national championship.
When he steps on the floor again, he’ll see a familiar face on the opposing bench.
Comer, a 2013 Jay County High School graduate, was one of four players to reach double figures Saturday as his University of St. Francis men’s basketball team cruised past Keiser 80-53 in the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Division II Tournament.
The No. 1 seed Cougars (32-4) will play seventh-seeded Indiana University East (22-13) in the national semifinal at 6 p.m. tonight at University of the Ozarks’ Keeter Gymnasium. IU East assistant coach Tyler Rigby is also a JCHS graduate and was teammates with Comer’s brother, Corey, on the Patriots’ 2006 state runner-up squad.
Comer put together another strong shooting game in the semifinals, hitting 7-of-12 from the field including both of his 3-point attempts for 16 points. He added four rebounds and two blocks.
The junior is averaging 16 points per game in the tournament thus far.
