Money Smart week set

Mark your calendar for the week of April 25 through 29.
That will be Money Smart week, with a variety of programs at the Jay County Public Library aimed at helping people do a better job of managing their finances.
The week is part of an initiative by the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago that’s now in its sixth year.
On Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m., Bruce Muller from the Indiana Attorney General’s Office will be on hand to discuss scams and frauds with an eye toward protecting your money.
Two lunchtime programs are set for Wednesday and Thursday of that week, with Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union providing a program on April 27 about online and mobile banking and bill paying. On April 28, MainSource Bank will provide a program on budgeting and saving.
Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. those days and the program runs from noon to 1 p.m.
Lunch reservations are requested and can be made by calling (260) 726-7890, If you’re not interested in lunch, plan to arrive by noon to hear the presentations.

Bicentennial theme
It’s probably no surprise that the theme of the 14th annual Jay County Heritage Festival will be “Happy 200th Birthday, Indiana!”
The event, set for Sept. 24 and 25, will be right at the heart of the state’s celebration of Indiana’s bicentennial locally.
Larry Hiatt and Kay Locker are co-chairs of the event for the Jay County Historical Society.

Read and eat
The Book and Lunch Club at Fort Recovery Library will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6. The club will be discussing the book “The Nightingale” by Kristen Hannah.
Anyone interested in participating should contact the library for a copy of the book.

Conference set
The focus of this year’s academic conference planned by the National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture will be on current research.
The conference is set for Saturday, April 16, in the Bubp Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland.
Speakers will include researcher and archaeologist Don Cochran, who will be discussing Indiana’s mounds and earthworks; George Godfrey, who will be discussing the Potawatomi removal, graduate student Elizabeth Watts Malouchos, who will be discussing Mississippian communities of southwester Indiana, and interpretative naturalist Kelley Morgan from Mounds State Park.

Registration set
Registration for the 2016-2017 school year for Fort Recovery Pre-School will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 in the auditeria of Fort Recovery Elementary/Middle School.
