Camp has new name

Taking Note

By Virginia [email protected]

State of the Heart Care’s camp now has a new name, but will continue to offer all the same services and activities.
Camp Encourage, formerly know as Camp BEARable, is open to youth, ages 6 to 15, who are experiencing grief after the loss of a loved one.
It will be held July 15 through 17 at the Spiritual Center at Maria Stein (Ohio) and will be led by Ashlee Carder, a certified music therapist and bereavement specialist with State of the Heart.
Kids will be able to express their grief and feelings through music, art, physical activities and social interactions with their peers and adult buddies. In addition, there will be a panel discussion allowing the campers to ask any question of the three panelists: a physician, a funeral director, and a minister.
Buddies (adult volunteers) are needed and should enjoy the outdoors and relate well to children. A background check is required and will be paid for by State of the Heart.
An orientation for volunteers will be held from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on July 15, at the Spiritual Center.
Registrations for campers or volunteer applications can be downloaded at the State of the Heart website — the Camp Encourage tab under ‘services.”
For more information, call Ashlee Carder at (800) 417-7535 or email [email protected].
