Jay Co. opens with Yorktown

INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots will meet an unfamiliar opponent.
The Starfires get to play a team they know all too well.
In the IHSAA softball sectional tournament draw held this morning, Jay County opens the Class 3A Sectional 24 tournament against the Yorktown Tigers.
The Patriots (3-10) and Tigers (13-3) meet in the first game of the tournament, which will be held at Hamilton Heights, at 5 p.m. May 24. The second opening-round game pits the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles (2-10) against the Delta Eagles (7-10) at 7 p.m. the same day.
The winners advance to the first semifinal, which will be at 5 p.m. May 26. The second semifinal has defending sectional champion Hamilton Heights (6-10) meeting Tipton (8-7) at 7 p.m. May 26.
The championship game is slated for 6 p.m. May 28.
South Adams, which is 13-4 and finished 13th in the most recent Class 2A poll, opens the Sectional 36 tournament against the Allen County Athletic Conference rival Bluffton Tigers (5-7) at 5 p.m. May 24 at Churubusco. The host Eagles (9-9) meet the Woodlan Warriors (3-10) at 7 p.m. the same night, with the winners to square off in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. May 25.
The Cavaliers of Fort Wayne Canterbury (5-4) meet fifth-ranked Adams Central (10-1) at 7 p.m. May 25, with the championship game scheduled for 5 p.m. May 27.
Jay County and South Adams are still searching for their first sectional titles in program history.
