Free lunches to be offered at area schools
Taking Note
The Jay School Corporation will once again be offering its Free Snack & Lunch Program this summer as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program for anyone 18 and younger.
Snacks will be available from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and free lunches will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning May 31 and continuing through July 22.
Schools offering lunches will include Westlawn, Redkey, Judge Haynes, General Shanks and Pennville elementary schools. Students may eat lunch at any school and do not have to be a Jay County resident.
Adults may also purchase a snack for 75 cents or lunch for $3.50.
Mission trip
A Fort Recovery student will be spending the summer on a mission trip to Haiti.
Lane Hull, who is a business management major at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, will travel to Haiti as part of Harding University’s Global Outreach program.
The groups are led by university faculty members and will include teaching English, hosting Vacation Bible Schools or completing projects with area churches.
Receives grant
An area school recently received a CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grant to further students learning in technology.
Bloomfield Elementary School was awarded $2,600 to purchase six iPad minis and the Osmo systems to be used for remediation, support or enrichment.
The grants are awarded on behalf of teachers who have developed specific plans to innovatively implement technology in their classrooms.
Teacher Amy Fullenkamp submitted the project for the grant.
Graduated
Emilee Miller, Portland, graduated from Defiance College on May 7 with a bachelor of science degree.
Zechariah Landers, Portland, graduated from Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University on May 7 with a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar.
