Starfires to share ACAC?title

BERNE — The Starfires will be champions.
South Adams High School’s softball team held off a late surge by county rival Adams Central on Monday, winning 6-5 and guaranteeing at least a share of the Allen County Athletic Conference championship.
South Adams (16-5, 4-2 ACAC) slowly built a six-run lead with one run in the second and sixth innings, and two runs in each of the fourth and fifth frames. Adams Central (12-4, 3-2 ACAC), which was held scoreless for the first six stanzas, put together a five-run effort in the top of the seventh but couldn’t muster any more.
Abby Myers and Katelin Augsburger both had two RBIs apiece for the Starfires. Keirstyn Grimm and Kayla LeFever both had two hits, with LeFever hitting a triple. Augsburger’s two RBIs came on a two-run home run.
Augsburger helped the Starfires defensively as well, as she earned the win in the circle. She allowed five runs — none earned — on six hits while walking one and striking out a dozen.
Tribe falls 4-2
SYDNEY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision Monday to Springfield Northwestern at Sidney High School.
Fort Recovery (18-7), which resumes postseason play when it meets St. Henry at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Coldwater, tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Springfield Northwestern scored two runs in the sixth for the win.
Jacob Homan hit his first home run of the season to lead the Indians, who also got a double from Ross Homan and an RBI from Cade Wendel. Ross Homan and Wendel both walked.
Hunter Boughman took the loss, giving up two earned runs in two innings of relief. He allowed two hits.
SA loses to Bears
BERNE — The South Adams baseball team lost to the Monroe Central Golden Bears on Monday, 9-4.
Two runs in each of the second and third innings gave the visiting Bears a 4-1 lead, and they scored four more in the fifth for an 8-1 advantage.
Monroe Central tacked on one more in the top of the seventh before South Adams (12-11) put up a brief rally with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Justin Nussbaum and Jayden Dull both had doubles to lead the Starfires. Nussbaum had three hits and an RBI, and Mark Clary also drove in a run.
Clary shouldered the loss, allowing eight runs — seven earned — on seen hits. He struck out six and walked two in four innings.
