TROY, Ohio — Two Tribe freshmen are one step closer to the state finals.
Robby LeFevre and Cassidy Martin both qualified for the finals during the preliminaries of the Division III Regional Championships on Wednesday.
LeFevre, qualified for the finals of both the 100- and 200-meter dash races. He is seeded second in the 100 dash with a time of 11.55 seconds. Darryn Jordan of Cincinnati Country Day is the top seed with a time of 11.4 seconds.
He then broke his own school record in the 200 dash, running to a time of 22.98 second for the third seed. Caleb Stevens of Riverside is the top seed in 22.67 seconds.
Martin, who won the district championship in the 400 dash on Saturday, is seeded fourth for the finals with her time of 59.14 seconds. Russia’s Lauren Heaton is the No. 1 seed in 57.44 seconds.
The Tribe boys 4x200 relay team of Tanner Koch, Caleb Martin, Wes Wenning and LeFevre is seeded sixth in 1 minute. 33.23 seconds. Murcell Marian is the top seed in 1:31.70.
The top eight in each event advance to the finals on Friday. Then the top four places advance to the state meet.
Cassidy Martin, Lauren Gehle, Emily May and Kiah Wendel teamed in the 4x100 relay to finish 11th in 53.21 seconds.
LeFevre teamed with Brandon “Speedy” Schoen, Caleb Martin and Wenning to finish 12th in the 4x100 relay in 45.55 seconds.
Koch missed the finals in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 10.25 inches.

SA reaches title
CHURUBUSCO — The South Adams softball team defeated the Woodlan Warriors 3-0 on Wednesday in the semifinal round of the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at Churubusco.
The Starfires, who are 21-6 for the most wins in program history, will meet county rival Adams Central at 5 p.m. Friday in the sectional championship game.
South Adams beat the Jets 6-5 May 12 in Monroe.
Kayla LeFever led South Adams with three hits and an RBI, and Abby Myers had a double and drove in a run. Keirstyn Grimm and Madison Morgan each had singles, and Morgan Alberson hit a triple.
Katelin Augsburger struck out 13 Warriors in seven innings. She gave up three hits and walked two.
Pioneer perfect
Pioneer Packaging remained undefeated Tuesday, defeating Pak-A-Sak 16-9 in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball division.
Maddox Huffman led Pioneer with two triples, a pair of doubles and a single. Dominick Bright chipped in with two doubles, two singles and a triple, and Jayden Comer contributed a triple, double and a single.
Eli Stockton paced Pak-A-Sak with three doubles, and Braden O’Brien added a triple and two singles.
