Capsule Reports
Syringes found
Two syringes were found Thursday in Portland.
At 1:30 p.m., Cassandra Prox, 1011 N. Ben Hawkins Ave., reported to a Portland police officer there was a syringe laying near the intersection of Park and North streets. At 6:30 p.m., Gayle D. Davenport, 204 E. Sixth St., reported a syringe was found on her property.
Officers collected and disposed of both syringes.
Raccoon road kill
A Muncie man hit a raccoon with his car Thursday morning in Madison Township.
Donald M. Garringer, 50, 306 E. Dartmouth Ave., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east on county road 800 South near county road 500 East when a raccoon ran onto the road. He said he was unable to avoid hitting the animal with his 2011 Chevrolet HHR.
Damage in the 5:45 a.m. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Vandalism
A Portland man reported at 11:22 a.m. Thursday that his rental property was vandalized.
Jeffery D. Upp, 4351 E. Division Road, told a Portland police officer his rental property at 912 E. High St., was broken into the night before. A window was broken at the property, but nothing was reported stolen.
