TROY, Ohio — Robby LeFevre is the fastest sprinter in the region.
He can now show his speed at the state level.
LeFevre, a Fort Recovery High School freshman, won the regional championship in the 100-meter dash in the Division III Track and Field Regional meet Friday at Troy. He was one of six Indians to earn a state berth.
Seeded second with a time of 11.55 seconds, LeFevre shaved 0.33 off his seed time to finish in 11.22 seconds, edging Darryn Jordan of Cinncinnati Country Day by five hundredths of a second.
He was also third in the 200 dash, breaking his own school record finishing with a time of 22.68 seconds to earn a berth in the state meet.
The top four places in each event advance to the state finals, which are Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State University.
LeFevre also ran the second leg of a state-qualifying 4x200 relay team. Along with Tanner Koch, Caleb Martin and Wes Wenning, the quartet was seeded sixth in 1 minute, 33.23 seconds. They finished fourth in 1:32.46, earning their trip to state.
Also making his way to state is thrower Tyler Acheson. The junior had a distance of 46 feet, 11 inches, to place fourth in the shot put. His second prelim attempt was his best, and he was not able to improve on it during the finals.
Travis Sutter was seventh in the 1,600 run in 4:39.44, helping the Tribe score 28 points to finish ninth out of 47 scoring teams.
Freshman Cassidy Martin also earned her first trip to the state finals, placing fourth in the 400 dash. Her time of 58.73 seconds set a new school record. She took 0.41 seconds off her seed time.
