Katy Smeltzer earned all-conference honors while a high school Patriot.
She can now add an accolade as a Patriot in college.
Smeltzer, a 2015 Jay County High School graduate, was named Mid-South Swimmer of the Week on Monday.
The sophomore at University of the Cumberlands earned her first NAIA “A” standard of the season in the Patriots’ 327-83 loss to Carson-Newman College on Friday.
Smeltzer finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.96 seconds, beating the national “A” standard by 0.16 seconds. She also earned a “B” cut in the 200 freestyle as she finished fourth in 2 minutes, 4.85 seconds. She also teamed with Brittany Litke, Nicole Ceausu and Christina Klouda to finish fourth in the 400 medley relay. Smeltzer swam the freestyle leg as the quartet had a time of 4:15.52.

Catherine Dunn
Jay County – 2015
Scored a career-high 26 points for the Brescia University women’s basketball team Tuesday in a 130-95 victory over St. Mary of the Woods.
Dunn, a sophomore, was 12-for-21 from the field and made two of her three free throws. She also added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
She tallied six points on 2-of-4 shooting for the Bearcats (1-1) Saturday in an 81-55 loss to Lindsey Wilson College.

Scott Schwieterman
Jay County – 2013
Led the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team in scoring Saturday in its 105-71 loss to NAIA No. 1 St. Francis.
Schwieterman racked up 20 points to lead the way for the Warriors (1-1). He shot 10-of-16 from the field and also had four rebounds.
He opened his season with four points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal in an 81-54 win over Wright State University Lake Campus.

Kegan Comer
Jay County – 2013
Was one of five players to score in double figures in the St. Francis win over Indiana Tech.
Comer shot 5-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line for 17 points. He also had four assists and three rebounds for the Cougars (2-0).
The senior also had 13 points and three assists Friday in a 117-90 victory over Cincinnati Christian.

Cassidy Rammel
Fort Recovery – 2015
Notched a team-high 14 kills Friday for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team in a 25-13, 26-24, 23-25, 25-12 loss to Marian University.
The sophomore also tallied four digs, two assists and helped on a pair of blocks for the Cougars (8-26, 4-14 Crossroads League), who lost 3-0 Saturday to Spring Arbor.

Eric Hemmelgarn
Jay County – 2014
Posted a team-high total in tackles for a loss for the University of Saint Francis football team Saturday in its 56-24 victory over Missouri Baptist in the final home game of the regular season.
Hemmelgarn had 4.5 tackles in the backfield for a total loss of 11 yards. He was also second on the team with eight tackles (six solo, two assists) and teamed with Lucas Sparks for a sack.
The NAIA No. 4 Cougars improved to 8-1 on the season and 5-1 in Mid-States Football Association-Mideast League play.

Cady Farlow
South Adams – 2015
Earned a pair of top-eight individual finishes for the Purdue University women’s swim team Saturday in a quad meet with Miami, Rutgers and Notre Dame in South Bend.
The sophomore was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes, 18.57 seconds. She added a sixth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:03.89.
Farlow also teamed with Maddie Barta, Katie May and Natalie Mudd to place sixth in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.68.

Anne Vormohr
Jay County – 2016
Was part of a pair of second-place relay performances Friday for the Ball State University women’s swim team in its 208-89 loss to Akron.
The freshman teamed with Amanda Kedzierski, Andra Richter and Jessica Extine to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 45.51 seconds. Vormohr, Kedzierski and Extine joined Peighton Gilbert to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay as well.

Sophie Bader
Jay County – 2016
Also swam for the Ball State women’s swim team Friday in its loss to Akron.
Bader was second in the 200 butterfly in 2 minutes, 6.97 seconds. She was also third in the 100 butterfly (57.77), and was part of the third-place 400 freestyle relay team with Andrea Richter, Cassidy Blackwin and Lauren Elston.

Abby Wendel
Jay County – 2016
Made her collegiate debut for the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team Wednesday in a 78-64 double-overtime victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene.
The freshman logged nearly 12 minutes of action on the court off the bench. She nabbed three rebounds and had two assists. She missed all five of her shots from the field, including two from beyond the 3-point line.

Kelsey Fiely
Fort Recovery – 2013
Closed her collegiate career with the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team Wednesday as it fell 25-19, 25-29, 25-23 to Indiana Tech.
In her final match for the Racers, Fiely finished third on the team with five digs. She also put up one assist.
The senior also had seven digs and an ace in Saturday’s three-set sweep of Michigan-Dearborn.
Fiely finished her senior year with 239 digs in 34 matches. She also had 21 assists, 17 aces and three kills.

Elle Sutter
Fort Recovery – 2014
Ran for the Ohio Northern University women’s cross country team Saturday in the Ohio Athletic Conference championships Saturday in Delaware, Ohio.
Sutter finished the 6K race 51st overall in 24 minutes, 29.3 seconds. She was eighth on the team for the Polar Bears, who scored 105 points for fourth place. Otterbein won the team title, edging John Carroll in a tiebreaker. Clair Lamb of Otterbein was the individual champion in 21:57.5.

Morgan Lennartz
Fort Recovery – 2016
Totaled 16 kills in a three-match span for the IU-East volleyball team.
The freshman had three kills, three digs and a block in a 25-15, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21 loss Saturday to Point Park University, then totaled six kills, one dig and assisted on three blocks as the Red Wolves beat Carlow University 25-20, 25-12, 25-15 later the same day.
Lennartz then notched seven kills, six digs and assisted on two blocks in a 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 victory against Ohio Christian.
The Red Wolves (14-18) close out regular-season play Saturday before beginning the River States Conference tournament Nov. 11.

Kirsten Jutte
Fort Recovery – 2016
Played for the Capital University volleyball team Saturday in a 25-5, 25-17, 25-21 loss to Baldwin Wallace.
The freshman was second on the team with six assists, while also adding two kills and one dig. The Crusaders finished the regular season 5-22 and 1-8 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
