Pole struck
A Portland woman struck a utility pole with her Chevrolet Saturday morning while driving in the parking lot of McDonald’s, 618 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Kari A. Guntle, 35, 521 N. Pleasant St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was driving her 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier in the McDonald’s parking lot when she did not see a utility pole and struck it with her car. The sun was in the southeast sky and Guntle said it was blinding her. Both airbags deployed as a result of the crash.
Damage in the 9:30 a.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer struck
Two rural Portland residents hit deer recently with their vehicles in Pike and Bearcreek townships.
Susan R. Stutevillie, 61, 550 E. 900 South, was traveling north on U.S. 27, south of county road 600 South, this morning in a 2009 Jeep when a deer ran onto the roadway and was hit by the car.
The Jeep is registered to Barbara J. Stutevillie, same address as the driver.
Damage in the 4:30 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Larry L. Bickel, 73, 783 S. 600 East, was eastbound Sunday evening on county road 300 North, east of county road 150 East, when a deer entered the road and Bickel was unable to avoid hitting it with his 2001 Dodge Caravan.
The Dodge was towed from the scene. Damage in the 8:55 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
