In her two seasons running for Jay County High School, Emi Minnich was a part of two sectional championships.
In her first year for the Archers, she’s a national champion.
Minnich, who spent her freshman and sophomore seasons at Jay County before graduating from Burris in 2016, scored for the Moody Bible Institute women’s cross country team as it won its fourth consecutive National Christian College Athletic Association Division II national championship Saturday at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.
She was fourth on her team and 11th overall as she crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 49.25 seconds. The Archers totaled 27 points to win, 23 points ahead of runner-up Marantha Baptist.
Her senior teammate Katie Morris was the individual champion in 19:26.7.
Sophie Bader

Was named Mid-American Conference co-swimmer of the week Nov. 10 for her performance in a meet Nov. 5 against Tiffin.
The Ball State University freshman is tied for ninth in the conference in the 100-yard butterfly (56.87 seconds) and seventh in the 200 butterfly (2 minutes, 5.25 second) in leading the Cardinals in both events.
In a 172-128 loss Friday at Illinois State, Bader was third in both the 100 butterfly (58.68) and 200 butterfly (2:08.28). She also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:12.84), and was part of a runner-up 400 medley relay team with her cousin Anne Vormohr, Amanda Kedzierski and Jessica Extine.
Bader had a butterfly split of 58.41 seconds, helping the team to a time of 3:54.27.

Also swam for the Ball State women’s swim team Friday in a loss to Illinois State.
She was second in the 100 backstroke with her time of 58.27 seconds, and followed that with a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2 minutes, 8.7 seconds.
She teamed with Amanda Kedzierski, Jessica Extine and Peighton Gilbert to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:35.09. She anchored the relay with a split of 52.7 seconds.
Scott Schwieterman
Jay County – 2013
Led the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team in rebounding in each of its last two games.
Schwieterman grabbed nine rebounds in the Warriors’ most recent win, which came by an 87-85 score Wednesday over Madonna. He was 7-of-11 from the field for 15 points while dishing out a pair of assists.
The redshirt junior recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds Saturday as the Warriors (4-1) defeated Olivet Nazarene 91-72. He also had two assists, one block and one steal.
Sawyer Miller
South Adams – 2015
Remained undefeated for the Indiana Tech wrestling team in a 45-0 victory Thursday over Davenport.
The sophomore won by tech fall, 19-2, over Nick Dankowski. Miller needed just 3 minutes for the lopsided victory, his sixth of the season.

Hit a pair of 3-pointers Saturday as the NAIA Division II No. 1 University of St. Francis men’s basketball team hammered Carlow 95-60.
Comer connected on two of his four attempts from long distance as he started and scored nine points in just 16 minutes before the Cougars (7-0) cleared their bench. He also had three assists and three rebounds.
The senior totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists Friday in USF’s 104-89 triumph over Point Park.
Wade Gelhaus
Fort Recovery – 2013
Led the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team in rebounding Friday as it upset the No. 3 team in the nation.
Gelhaus pulled down eight rebounds for the Cardinals as they opened their season with a 68-66 victory over NCAA Division II No. 3 Bellarmine. He also had six points and a steal.
The senior had seven rebounds, seven points, one assist and one steal Saturday as the Cardinals (2-0) topped St. Joseph’s 81-80.

Fort Recovery – 2014
Came off the bench to finish second in scoring for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team Tuesday in a 96-80 loss to Fairmount State.
The junior was 4-of-7 from the field, including 2-for-5 from beyond the 3-point line, to finish with 11 points in 17 minutes. He also added rebound.
He totaled six points on 2-of-7 shooting with one rebound and an assist as the Oilers (1-1) defeated Illinois-Springfield 81-57.

South Adams – 2016
Made her collegiate debut for the Huntington University women’s basketball team Saturday in a 71-48 victory over Judson.
She played almost four minutes off the bench, and made one of her two shots to finish with two points. She also added a defensive rebound and had one steal for the Foresters (4-1).
Catherine Dunn
Jay County – 2015
Was second in rebounds for the Brescia University women’s basketball team Saturday in a 109-72 loss to Lindsey Wilson College.
The sophomore had three boards on defense as a starting guard. She was 2-for-11 from the field and made three of her five free throws to finish with seven points for the Bearcats (1-5).
Derek Wanner
South Adams – 2015
Had one tackle for the Taylor University football team Saturday in a season-ending loss to Trinity International, 17-14.
The sophomore’s only stop came during the fourth quarter after a 9-yard pass on third-and-7.
Wanner played in all 11 games for the Trojans (4-7) and made two starts. He finished with 25 total tackles, including 13 solo, to finish tied for 12th on the team.
Elle Sutter
Fort Recovery – 2016
Had her junior season for the Ohio Northern University women’s cross country team come to an end Saturday in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Cross County Championships.
Sutter was sixth on the team and 140th overall for the Polar Bears with her time of 24 minutes, 52 seconds. ONU totaled 348 points to finish 13th out of 31 teams.
Erin Herrmann of Hope College was the race winner in 21:10.9.
Morgan Lennartz
Fort Recovery – 2016
Played for the IU East volleyball team Friday in a 29-27, 25-17, 25-18 season-ending loss Saturday to Asbury University in the River States Conference tournament quarterfinal.
The freshman totaled three kills on 16 attempts while also adding six digs for the Red Wolves (14-20). She finished the season fourth on the team with 119 kills, while also adding 59 digs and 43 blocks.

Jay County – 2016
Came off the bench for the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team Tuesday in a 79-63 loss to Pikeville.
The freshman logged nearly 18 minutes of playing time and missed the only shot she took. She also grabbed a defensive rebound for the Red Storm (2-2).
