Multiple vehicles struck deer Wednesday


Six vehicles collided with deer Wednesday in Jay County.
The most severe of those accidents occurred this morning, when Larry A. Lee, 47, 316 N. Pleasant St., was driving his 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier north on U.S. 27 near county road 500 North.
Lee told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving and his vehicle hit a deer, causing him to lose control of the Chevrolet. As a result, the car left the west side of the road and struck a Jay County REMC utility pole.
The Chevrolet was towed from the scene. Lee suffered chest injuries as a result of the accident, according to the police report.
Damage in the 3:45 a.m. accident is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
In other collisions Wednesday:
•Niger Castro Saldana, 28, Logansport, was northbound on county road 300 North, near Treaty Line Road, in Madison Township when a deer entered the roadway and he was unable to avoid striking it with a 2009 Honda Civic.
The Civic, which was towed from the scene, is registered to Wilmer P. Hernandez, Kokomo.
Damage in the 9:30 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

•Justin P. Starr, 31, 903 S. Meridian St., was eastbound on county road 200 South, near county road 200 West, in Wayne Township when a deer entered the road and he struck it with his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
Damage in the 6:35 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.  
•Jon G. Davis Jr., 31, 314 E. High St., Redkey, was traveling south on county road 400 South, east of country road 1100 west, leaving Dunkirk when a deer ran into the driver’s side of his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.
Damage in the 6:40 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
•Kathy K. Neargarder, 55, 6982 E. 900 South, Union City, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling north on county road 700 East, north of county road 600 South, in Madison Township when deer entered the roadway and she was unable to avoid a collision. Neargarder struck the deer the 2010 Ford Expedition she was driving.
The Ford is registered to Ricky A. Neargarder, same address as the driver.
Damage in the 6:55 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
•Karen I. Huey, 44, 4814 W. 300 North, was eastbound on county road 300 North, near county road 350 West, in Greene Township when a deer ran into the driver’s side of her 2014 Chevrolet Impala.
Damage in the 2:30 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
