FORT WAYNE — The Starfires didn’t lose a race.
They earned the top two spots in all but one event too.
The South Adams High School girls swim team opened its dual meet schedule with a commanding victory over the Fort Wayne South Side Archers on Thursday, 134-33.
Ashley LeFever and twins Ashton and Brette Klopp each won a pair of individual events while also helping a pair of winning relay teams.
LeFever finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly in 26.98 seconds and 1 minute, 6.24 seconds respectively. Ashton Klopp handled the 200 individual medley (2:20.65) and 500 freestyle (5:39.09) events, and Brette Klopp earned the top spot in the 200 freestyle (2:20.65) and 100 backstroke (1:05.82).
The trio joined Audrey Burson to win the 200 medley relay in 2:02.88, then teamed with Caroline Kloepper for a 200 freestyle relay victory in 1:50.14.
Burson (100 breaststroke – 1:20.5) and Kloepper (100 freestyle – 1:01.42) also won individual events.
Sisters Olivia and Isabel Von Gunten teamed with Riley Thompson and Kloepper to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:47.36.
Schutz showdown
The Jay County Wrestling Club and high school squads will have showdowns tonight at Harold E. Schutz Stadium.
The elementary wrestling clinic will have its tournament at the football stadium at 5 p.m. Estimated start time for the high school intra-squad tournament is 7 p.m.
It is free and open to the public.
In the event of inclement weather, both tournaments will move into the auxiliary gym at JCHS.
