Auditions set for ‘High Society’

It’s time to audition.
Jay County Civic Theatre will hold auditions for “High Society” at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland.
Those auditioning for the show should come with a prepared song and be ready to read from the script and sing a song from the show. Girls under the age of 18 are encourage to try out for the role of Tracy Lord, a 13-year-old.
Performances of the show are scheduled for Feb 23 through 26 at Arts Place. The show was originally slated for the fall, but was postponed because of scheduling conflicts.

Performing ‘Carol’
Harmony Players’ production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at Harmony Cafe in Portland continue this week.
The show that tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, his employee Bob Cratchit and three Christmas ghosts features local performers as well as cast members from Muncie, Anderson, Marion and Indianapolis.
Performances will be held at 6:30 p.m.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Tickets, which include dinner, are $24. They can be purchased by calling (937) 768-2892.

On display
Friends of the Fort Recovery Library will host its Fort Festival of Trees from Monday through Dec. 31.
Families, local organizations and businesses are invited to decorate a tree or wreath for the display. For more information, call (419) 375-2869.

Baker returning
Road Rubber Comedy has announced plans for its next show, which will reprise its first.
Comedian Donnie Baker, a frequent guest on the Bob and Tom radio show, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Jay County Event Center. Tickets are available at roadrubbercomedy.com.

Primer playing
Blues musician John Primer will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Key Palace Theatre in Redkey.
Prior is a Chicago-based artist who has played with The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Ray Charles and B.B. King. Tickets are $15.

Hosting show
Ball State University’s Charles W. Brown Planetarium will host the show “The Christmas Star” beginning Friday.
The show, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and 6:30 and 8 p.m. on Saturdays through Dec. 17, focuses on potential explanations for the Star of Bethlehem.

‘Nutcracker’ set
Two different performances of “The Nutcracker” are scheduled in Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne Ballet will perform the classic Tchaikovsky show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Arts United Center, 303 E. Main St. Shows will continue through Dec. 11.
Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre, 125 W. Jefferson Blvd., will host a single performance of “Great Russian Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Dec. 7.
