Blood drive has 85 donors
Taking Note
The American Red Cross held a blood drive Tuesday at Jay Community Center with 85 donors.
Receiving gallon awards were Susan Sommers - 3 gallons; Joseph Reinhard - 20 gallons; and Gary McMillian - 4 gallons.

Homecoming court
Katy Smeltzer is a representative for the 2016 Homecoming Court at University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Smeltzer is a Jay County High School graduate and the daughter of Kelly and Jaime Smeltzer of Portland. She is a sophomore majoring in biology.
The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced Saturday at halftime during UC’s football game.
Village fun
Swiss Village in Berne will host Saturday Night at the Village at 7 p.m. Saturday with fun, free entertainment.
Brass 6, from Marion, will be performing. The sextet consists of two trumpets, a trombone, french horn, baritone and a tuba player playing big band, country, dixieland, gospel, patriotic, polka, pop and ragtime.

Library programs
Fort Recovery Public Library has activities and events coming up.
The crochet club will meet at 10 a.m. each Tuesday. Anyone wanting to learn to crochet is welcome.
Novels at Night will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. Call the library at (419) 375-2869 to request the book of the month.
Chris Parsons will present the program “UFO’s: the Truth is Out There” at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18.
Parsons will discuss UFO history focusing on declassified government documents and articles in the news.
Gourd meeting
A gourd meeting, in conjunction with the Indiana Gourd Society, will be held in Ridgeville.
Those 14 and older are invited to attend the meeting at 2 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the old Lions Club Building, south of Ridgeville on Indiana 28.
Lavina Smith will demonstrate wood burning on gourds. Bring gourds to work on or they will be for sale and tools will also be available to use.
R.S.V.P. at (317) 370-1418. There will be a $2 charge to cover the building rent.
