Security firm finds a home

Until a few weeks ago, it would have been easy to miss the storefront of Secret Security Systems at 201 N. Meridian St. in Portland 
Owner Jamie Wagner started his company in 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee, installing video camera systems for businesses. Eventually, Wagner’s company installed and operated the cameras at Nissan Stadium, the home of the Tennessee Titans.
“We had to have a guy there at every game and concert,” Wagner explained.
By 2011, Wagner decided to move his business to Portland, where he and his wife, Jaime, are both originally from. That same year, Wagner acquired the storefront, but focused on business and government security contracts.
“We do mainly government jobs out of town,” he explained.
Secret Security Systems even had a contract with the U.S. Secret Service. 
“We did the camera systems for the Secret Service headquarters connected to the White House,” Wagner said. “We had to have a Secret Service escort the whole time.”
In town, Wagner provides the camera systems for a few different clients.
“We’ve done the systems for the (Portland) Fire Department, (Portland) Police Department, Youth Service Bureau, Fisher Meats and Pioneer Packaging.”
The company’s store sells a variety of security products, including cameras, clock safes, faux soda can and water bottle safes and self-defense products.
A new sign adorns the west face of the building, added two weeks ago after being made by Display Craft Signs of Portland.
Wagner, a 1995 Jay County High School graduate, explained that most of his business is still conducted outside of Jay County.
“We’re trying to stay with mainly businesses, but we may move into residential,” Wagner said. The shop doesn’t have regular hours, but the door is usually open when Wagner or one of the other three employees is in. Instead, Wagner encouraged prospective clients to call the shop’s line at (260) 726-3000.
