BERNE — The Starfires dropped the opening set Monday playing on their home court for the final time during the regular season.
They dominated the rest of the way.
The South Adams High School volleyball team closed out its regularly-scheduled matches at the StarDome — it would host the regional if it is able to repeat as the sectional champion — with a 22-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-23 victory over the visiting Bishop Luers Knights.
The win pushed the Starfires to 21-8 on the year ahead of a road matchup with Union City tonight in the season finale.
Madi Wurster, a junior, led the Starfires with 20 kills, while sharing the team high of three blocks with Addie Wanner and Jade Farlow. Wurster also added nine digs, Wanner contributed nine kills and a pair of aces and Farlow recorded three digs.
Morgan Alberson was third on the team with six kills and recorded a team-high 22 digs, with Caralie Farlow notching four kills.
The Starfire junior varsity team also won, 25-14, 25-17. Shaelynn Bowman had eight kills and eight digs, and Lydia Loshe finished with 10 kills and 10 digs. Hannah Dull added 15 digs, three kills and two aces.
South Adams’ freshman team earned a win over the Knights, 24-25, 25-13, 15-7. Hannah Beitler had seven kills, Hannah Rhoades tallied 10 digs and Sidney Schwartz totaled 16 assists.
Eagles sweep Bruins
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both defeated the Blackford Bruins on Monday.
The WJMS eighth graders held off the Bruins for a 20-25, 25-13, 15-14 victory, while the seventh grade Eagles won 25-6, 25-14.
Demi Grove had nine aces on her way to 25 service points to lead the WJMS eighth grade squad. Abbi Kuss chipped in with six points and Jayden Price notched five. Lyric Garringer finished with four points, and Lillian Clemmons had a pair of kills and one block.
For the seventh grade Eagles, Kaelyn Denney posted team highs in both points (12) and aces (six). Jaidi Brunson had four aces and 10 points, with Madison Hammers and Kaden Norris chipping in with five points apiece.
