College bound students and their parents will receive help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on College Goal Sunday.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13 at John Jay Center for Learning in Portland.
The FAFSA is required for students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships and student loans at most colleges, universities and vocational/technical schools nationwide.
Parents should bring completed 2015 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 Forms and other 2015 income and benefits information and students who worked last year should also bring their income information.
Students 24 and older may attend alone and bring their income information.
Students and parents are encouraged to apply for their U.S. Department of Education FSA IDs at fsaid.ed.gov before the event.
Craft show
The Xi Chapter of Delta Theta Tau will hold its annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Jay County High School.
There will also be a bake sale and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Proceeds will be used for the many philanthropic projects of the sorority, including scholarships for seniors, Gift of the Heart at JCHS, a dental and mental health program through Jay Schools, the Youth Service Bureau, Jay County Cancer Society, Arts Place and others.
Admission is $2 and kids 12 and younger are free.
Slim Fisher events
Slim Fisher Studios in Dunkirk will take free portraits on two separate occasions.
David Flowers will take photos of children in their Halloween costumes at a Spooktacular Trick-or-Treat Extravaganza from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Halloween. There will also be hot cider, candy and classic horror films shown.
Flowers would also like to thank those who have served our nation by taking a free family portrait of veterans and their families in observance of Veterans Day. Portraits will be taken beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 10. Walk-ins are welcome or an appointment may be scheduled by calling (765) 768-1442.
