Hale leads Eagles to win

Middle school roundup

DUNKIRK — Caleb Hale carried the ball three times.
Two of them were for touchdowns.
Hale rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns Tuesday, leading the West Jay Middle School football team to a 32-0 clubbing of the visiting Southern Wells Raiders.
Hale scored on runs of 55 and 65 yards respectively. Wesley Bennett and Andrew Powers also added rushing scores of 5 yards each.
Defensively, Logan Brown and Wesley Bennett had eight tackles apiece, and Quinn Faulkner returned a fumble recovery 70 yards for a score.
The Eagles totaled 271 rushing yards.

Chiefs top Tigers
BLUFFTON — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both picked up victories against the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday.
The EJMS eighth graders won 25-11, 22-25, 15-8, and the seventh graders earned a 25-15, 25-21 victory.
Alaina Kunkler had 11 kills to lead the eighth grade Chiefs. She also had two digs, two aces and six service points. Pacie Denney had a team-high 13 points to go with her three aces, two digs and two kills.
Kearston Myers and Natalie Miles both had four aces to share the team lead, and Denney had eight assists.
Madison Dirksen led the EJMS seventh graders with four kills. She also had three points and one ace. Maddy Wenk totaled seven aces on her way to nine points, with Madison Jetmore and Jayden Claytor chipping in with five and four points respectively.
Chief runners win
East Jay’s boys and girls cross country teams defeated West Jay and Woodlan on Tuesday at Hudson Family Park.
The Chief boys earned four of the top five spots to finish with a team total of 18. Woodlan was second with 50, and West Jay scored 69 points for third.
East Jay’s girls team totaled 25 points, ahead of Woodlan (51) and West Jay (64).
Mitchell Winner of East Jay was the overall boys winner with a time of 12 minutes, 23 seconds. He was followed by Xavier Myers (second), Tyler Manor (fourth), Dustin Harris (fifth) and Flint Schmiesing (sixth).
Aaron Funkhouser was the top West Jay runner, and he placed eighth. Also scoring for the Eagles were Trenton Alexander (13th), Gage Baker (14th), Jaron Alexander (16th) and Jaden Fields (20th).
In the girls race, East Jay had all five of its scoring runners finish in third through seventh place. They were, in order, Mara Bader, Lindy Wood, Lydia Keihn, Miranda Alig and Olivia Waters.
Sophia Fugiett of West Jay was third, followed by teammates Raven Weaver (eighth), Aubrey Hatzell (17th), Grace Shimp (18th) and Sam Donberger (19th).


EJ falls to Jets
The East Jay eighth grade football team fell to 1-1 on the season Tuesday with a 27-13 loss to the Adams Central Jets.
The seventh graders also lost, 19-6.
Bailey Cox had a 40-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the eighth grade Chiefs. RJ Lennartz also reached paydirt from 63 yards out, and Landon Grimes kicked a 2-point conversion.
Defensively, Caleb Shawver recovered a fumble.
Blayne Daniels scored the lone touchdown for the EJMS seventh graders. He totaled 60 rushing yards, and Tarron Bentz added 45. Dylan Knapschafer and Daniels had four tackles each.

Tribe beats Redskins
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams beat the St. Henry Redskins on Tuesday.
The eighth graders won 25-4, 25-18, and the seventh graders outlasted the Redskins 25-27, 25-13, 25-13.
Paige Fortkamp had 10 kills to lead the eighth graders. Hope Wendel and Brenna Homan had five and three kills respectively. Kierra Wendel had eight aces on her way to 17 service points, and Hope Wendel added 12 assists.
For the FRMS seventh graders, Marissa Gaerke had a team-high six kills to go with her nine points, five digs and four aces. Madelyn Knapke had 13 points and seven assists, while Aubrey Knapke had 10 points. Both Knapkes had three aces.

Arnold leads SA
BERNE — Jason Arnold threw for three touchdowns and Alex Gorney ran for two scores as the South Adams eighth grade football team defeated Bluffton on Tuesday, 39-0.
The SAMS seventh graders also won, 22-0.
Arnold completed three of his five pass attempts for 108 yards and three scores, while Gorney carried the ball eight times for 133 yards and two TDs.
Nick Miller had two touchdown catches, Braden Bixler had one TD reception, and Christian Summersett had a 1-yard touchdown run.
In the seventh grade contest, Aidan Wanner tossed two touchdown passes to Trey Schoch of 49 and 88 yards respectively. Schoch also had a 27-yard touchdown run.
Both teams move to 2-0 in the regular season and Allen County Athletic Conference play.
