FORT RECOVERY — The Indians can party like it’s 2006.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team bounced back from a loss in the second set to earn a 3-1 victory Thursday against the St. Henry Redskins, 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 25-20.
It was the first victory over the Redskins since 2006. St. Henry entered Thursday’s contest ranked second in Division III by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
Junior Carley Stone had a career-high 21 kills, while also adding nine digs, eight points and two aces.
Kiah Wendel and Alexis Bubp shared the team-high of 18 digs, and Madi Rammel recorded 32 assists in addition to her four digs, two kills and two blocks.
Defensively, Brooke Gaerke had six blocks and Paige Jutte had four, as the Indians (7-1, 2-0 MAC) recorded 14 total blocks.
The Indians’ junior varsity team also won, 30-28, 22-25, 25-19.
Hannah Knapke and Chloe Showalter led FRHS with nine and seven kills respectively.
Brooke Kahlig posted a team-high 10 digs, and Faith Kahlig totaled 13 assists.
FR falls to Cavs
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School girls golf team lost to the Coldwater Cavaliers on Thursday, 223-233, at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Emily Bruns earned match medalist honors in leading Fort Recovery. She finished with a 50. Elli Keller was second on the team with a 58, and Kristen Keller shot a 60 for the Tribe’s No. 3 score. Eryn Litmer carded a 65 to complete the FRHS team score.
Also competing for the Indians were Becca Wood and Devin Jutte, who shot an 81 and 82 respectively.
Stars sweep Tigers
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team made relatively easy work of the visiting Bluffton Tigers on Thursday, earning a 25-7, 25-21, 25-12 sweep.
The Starfires move to 10-3 on the year and 2-0 in Allen County Athletic Conference play.
Madi Wurster had a dozen kills and two blocks to lead the Starfires. Caralie Farlow and Shania Neal had 12 digs apiece, Julia Grabau tallied 26 assists, and Morgan Alberson notched seven kills.
The junior varsity Starfires also won, 25-17, 25-19.
Shaelynn Bowman had five kills, Sidney Schwartz registered nine assists and Lydia Loshe tallied six digs.
Cavs edge Indians
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team lost a heartbreaker to Midwest Athletic Conference rival Coldwater on Thursday, 184-185, at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Senior Micaiah Cox made two birdies and two pars on his way to a team-best 45. His birdies came on the par-5 fourth and the par-4 sixth holes.
Grant Knapke was second on the team with a 46. Austin Faller and Harrison Kaup both shot a 47 to complete the team score for Fort Recovery.
Calvin Rammel and Austin Pohl also competed for the Indians, and they shot 49 and 51 respectively.
Coldwater’s Andrew Fisher was the match medalist with a 41.
