NOBLESVILLE — The Jay County High School volleyball team went 2-2 on Saturday at the Noblesville Invitational.
Jay County (9-6), won its opening match against Frankton 25-13, 25-16 before falling in three sets to Wes-Del — the Warriors were ranked 14th in the most recent Class 2A poll — 25-23, 24-26, 15-7. The Patriots bounced back with a 25-17, 25-12 victory over Plainfield and lost their final match of the tournament to Huntington North, 25-16, 25-10.
Senior Abby Barcus led the Patriots with 34 kills throughout the tournament. She was also second on the team with 24 digs and four blocks.
Britlyn Dues totaled 17 kills and was second on the team with six blocks. Sarah Walter totaled 13 kills, 14 digs and a block, while Olivia Kunkler had 11 kills and four digs.
Sophomore Kailee Denney tallied 37 assists and 13 digs, and classmate Kendal Garringer notched 30 assists and 17 digs.
Patriots 13th
HARTFORD CITY — Skyler Myers set a new career-best in helping the Jay County boys cross country team to a 13th place finish on Saturday at the Blackford Invitational.
Myers finished in 46th place with a time of 20 minutes, 2 seconds, as the Patriots scored 377 points.
Other team scores were not provided.
The other scoring runners for the Jay County boys were Mason Winner (76th – 21:20), Tayler Smeltzer (83rd – 21:47), Ben Strausburg (109th – 23:22) and Candler Hedges (23:46).
Erika Kunkler was the top JCHS girl, finishing in 25:46 for 60th place. Vivienne Kunkler was 113th in 31:49, Kiara Walter finished 118th with a time of 32:07, and Catherine Stafford placed 124th in 36:35.
Also running for the Patriot boys were Matthew Minnich (124th), Nathanael Day (133rd), Dustin Bricker (147th) and Rob Garringer (174th).
