The Patriots ended their regular season on a positive note.
Madison Brown shot a career-low and the Jay County High School girls golf team finished first Tuesday in a three-team match against Blackford and Southern Wells at Portland Golf Club.
The Patriots shot 208, edging Southern Wells by one stroke. Blackford only had three players and did not qualify for a team score.
Brown, a Jay County senior, led the team with a career-best 47, three strokes better than the previous low she set Aug. 11 against Muncie Central.
Kendra Dodd joined her classmate with a sub-50 round, finishing with a 48. Cassie Reno shot a 54 for third on the team, and Carlie Wickey completed the Patriots’ score with a 59.
Madalyn Garringer also competed, shooting a 63.
Jay County, which plays in the sectional tournament Saturday at Crestview Golf Course in Muncie, finished the year 9-6 and 3-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.

Jay falls to AC
MONROE — Jay County’s volleyball team bounced back from losing consecutive sets to force a fifth but fell to the host Adams Central Flying Jets, 18-25, 25-20, 31-29, 24-26, 15-10.
Patriot senior Abby Barcus posted team highs in both kills (16), digs (14) and blocks (three), as Jay County fell to 9-7 (2-1 Allen County Athletic Conference). It slipped into a tie for second place in the conference with Adams Central. Both Heritage and South Adams are tied at the top with 2-0 conference marks.
Olivia Kunkler was second on the team with 12 kills, and Kaelyn Weaver tallied seven. Britlyn Dues notched six kills, and Chloe Trissel totaled 13 digs. Kendal Garringer recorded 29 assists and 10 digs, and Kailee Denney had 14 assists.
Jay County’s junior varsity team defeated Adams Central 25-16, 25-21.
Hallie Fields led the Patriots with seven kills, and Sarah Hemmelgarn notched four. Maggie Pryor had five digs, Fields added four and Alayna Aparicio chipped in with three.
Emma James totaled six assists, and her twin Hanna added five.
Tennis shut out
MONROE — The Jay County High School boys tennis team was shut out on Tuesday, 5-0, against the Adams Central Flying Jets.
The Patriots fell to 3-8 (1-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) on the year.
At No. 1 singles, Garrett Rodgers lost to Zach Green 6-0, 6-0, and Payton Heniser dropped his No. 2 singles match to Jared Ripley 6-0, 6-3. Conner Benter lost at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0 to Adam Busse.
Jay County’s No. 1 doubles team of Luke Weaver and Kyler Hudson lost to Jaxson Ringenberger and Cam Burkhart 6-3, 6-1, and at No. 2 doubles Gabe Blankenship and Xavier Ninde fell to Kyle Arnold and Lucas Harvey 6-4, 6-1.
The Patriots’ junior varsity team also lost, 4-0. Calvin Whitney dropped both of his singles matches, while Sheldon Upp and Gavin Randall lost twice in doubles contests.

Boys fall short
RICHMOND — Richmond scored three goals in the second half Tuesday, handing the Jay County High School boys soccer team a 4-1 loss.
Ian McCombs scored the lone goal for the Patriots (3-6). McCombs’ tally was the equalizer after Richmond beat Jay County keeper Zach Chaney during the 18th minute.
But the Patriots couldn’t keep up the momentum in the final 40 minutes as the Red Devils earned the home victory.

FR golf wins
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team defeated the Parkway Panthers on Tuesday, 237-262, at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Emily Bruns earned match medalist honors with a 52. Elli Keller was second on the team with 59, with Kristen Keller and Eryn Litmer completed the Tribe’s team score with scores of 62 and 64 respectively.
Sophie Timmerman and Lydia Schmitz also competed for the Indians. Timmerman shot a 77, and Schmitz totaled 89.
Tribe edges Rangers
MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team lost by one stroke to the New Knoxville Rangers on Tuesday, 197-198, at Arrowhead Golf Club.
Harrison Kaup led the Indians with a 48, including par on the eighth hole. Austin Faller, Micaiah Cox and Calvin Rammel each shot 50 to complete the Tribe’s team score.
Austin Pohl and Aaron Lochtefeld also competed, and they shot 51 and 60 respectively.
