Last week at Adams Central: Adams Central, which was ranked fourth in Class 1A, used a solid mix of passing and running plays to defeat Jay County 33-7. The Jets totaled 241 yards on the ground and 170 through the air. Adams Central held a Jay County offense team that had three 100-plus rushers the week before to just 205 yards of total offense.
Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 16-for-33 for 312 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Rushing — 54 carries for 356 yards and two touchdowns. Receiving — Bryan Stancliffe – four catches for 141 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Ethan Theurer – 47 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack and two fumble recoveries.
Bluffton Tigers
Bluffton, 1-3 (0-2 ACAC)
Coach: Randy Hudgins, third year
Conference: Allen County
Last week vs. Woodlan: The Class 2A No. 2 Woodlan Warriors scored 27 points in the second quarter on their way to a 55-6 clubbing of the host Tigers. Woodlan QB Justin Durkes was 18-of-21 passing for 305 yards and four touchdowns, while Jack Rhoades added 118 yards rushing. Bluffton’s only score came on a 16-yard pass from Brandon Lockwood to Timmy Davis during the second quarter.
Season leaders: Passing — Timmy Davis – 15-for-43 for 202 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Rushing — Adam Baumgartner – 22 carries for 195 yards and one touchdown. Receiving — Reid Wenger – four catches for 75 yards. Defense — Evan Kitt – 20 tackles, one tackle for loss and one force fumble.
Last season: Jay County took advantage of the absence of future Big Ten running back D’Wayne Eskridge in shutting down the Bluffton offense for a 36-28 victory on homecoming. Cole Stigleman and Levi Hummel both had two rushing touchdowns despite not reaching 100 yards
Game notes: This is the fifth meeting between the two schools, and Jay County is undefeated in the series. ... Bluffton is allowing 38 points per game —?including back-to-back games of 55 or more points — while scoring just 6.3 points per contest. Jay County averages 23.8 points per game, and its defense surrenders 21.5 points per game ... The Tigers average 158 yards of total offense, and their defense has given up more than 350 yards per game. The Patriots average slightly more than 300 yards of total offense..
