Capsule Reports

Truck stolen
A truck was reported stolen Wednesday from the parking lot of Portland Forge.
Kent Younts told the Portland Police Department that his blue 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was taken sometime between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. while he was at work. The license plate number of Younts’ Silverado is TK477MLP.
Police are still investigating the case.

Three injured
Three were injured Wednesday in a car accident on Indiana 67.
Terry J. Manes, 66, 400 E. 5th St., Hartford City, and his wife Judith Manes, were westbound on Indiana 67 in their 2014 Ford Focus when a vehicle pulled into the roadway in front of them.
Arleen E. Miller, 85, 8831 N. Broadway St., Bryant, told police she was stopped at the intersection of Indiana 67 and county road 700 East. She said when she pulled forward to cross Indiana 67, she could not see the Manes’ 2014 Ford Focus. Miller’s 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette was struck by the Focus on the front passenger side.
Terry Manes complained of shoulder pain, and Judith Manes and Miller both complained of chest pain. All three received medical attention on the scene from Jay Emergency Medical Service.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, and damage in the 1:39 p.m. accident was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.

Wide turn
A Fort Recovery man and Portland man were involved in an accident Wednesday morning.
David M. Minnich, 29, 182 Ohio 219, Fort Recovery, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was turning right from county road 300 North onto county road 850 East when he made too wide of a turn in the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving and struck a truck that was slowing to stop at a stop sign.
Joseph S. Bickle, 36, 112 Honeysuckle Lane, Portland, told police he had almost slowed the Freightliner MT55 he was driving to a stop when it was hit on the front driver side by the Silverado.
The Silverado Minnich was driving is registered to Madonna and Gregg Minnich, 8631 E. 300 North, Portland. The Freightliner driven by Bickle is registered to FXFWYO3, Inc. at 2887 E. U.S. 224, Winchester.
Damage in the 10:10 a.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Dump truck accident
A Muncie man and a Winchester man were involved in an accident Tuesday morning.
Robert O. Beymer, 59, 1128 W. Rex St., Muncie, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was heading north on Indiana 67 and nearing its intersection with county road 125 South when a dump truck pulled out ahead of him and he struck it with his 2003 Toyota Echo.
Max D. St. Myers, 68, 439 E. South St., Winchester, was driving the 1997 International 9200 dump truck. St. Myers told police he saw Beymer’s Echo approaching, but thought he would have enough time to pull out in front of it onto Indiana 67. Once he turned the dump truck onto Indiana 67, it was struck on the rear passenger side by Beymer’s Echo.
The International is registered to Culy Construction and Power Services, 610 N. 100 East, Winchester.
Damage in the 8:30 a.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Police car accident
A Portland man and Portland police officer were involved in an accident early Wednesday morning.
Officer Erica N. Post, 23, 3913 N. 700 East, was stopped at a four-way stop while heading southbound on Wayne Street in Portland when she observed another vehicle come to a stop heading westbound on 7th Street.
Kane A. Bray, 21, 1083 E. 100 S., stopped his 2013 Chevrolet Spark at the stop sign of the intersection, and failed to yield to Post’s right of way, according to the accident report. Bray pulled his Spark into the intersection at the same time as Post did in a Portland Police Department’s 2014 Dodge Charger. The Charger struck Bray’s Spark and caused damage on the passenger side.
Damage in the 6:54 a.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

Correction
An item on page 1 of Wednesday’s edition of The Commercial Review contained incorrect information.
Issues dealing with Bluff Point Wind Energy Center are slated to be discussed at tonight’s Jay County Plan Commission meeting. Confined feeding rules will be on the agenda at a later date.
