BLUFFTON — The Eagles haven’t lost yet.
Caleb Hale has been a big reason why.
Hale scored three rushing touchdowns Tuesday, leading the West Jay Middle School football team to a 27-14 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.
Hale scored on runs of 15, 5 and 30 yards, as he totaled 76 yards on the ground on six carries. Wesley Bennett totaled 61 yards on seven carries, and he returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown.
Quinn Faulkner completed two of his four pass attempts for 45 yards. He connected with Kess McBride for a 35-yard strike, and Bennett hauled in a 10-yard reception.
Andrew Powers led the West Jay defense with six tackles. Faulkner and Bennett had five tackles each, and Bennett totaled two interceptions.
West Jay moves to 4-0 on the year.
SA roughs up Chiefs
The South Adams seventh and eighth grade football teams remained undefeated on Tuesday, earning wins over the East Jay Chiefs.
The Starfire seventh graders won 22-6, and the eighth graders won 33-0.
Aidan Wanner had 108 yards and two touchdowns on four carries for the SAMS seventh graders (4-0, 4-0 Allen County Athletic Conference). He scored on runs of 1 and 95 yards during the first quarter. Trey Schoch (10 carries, 103 yards) also had a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Taron Bentz had 110 rushing yards and scored the lone touchdown for East Jay (2-3, 1-3 ACAC).
Alex Gorney had two rushing touchdowns for the Starfire eighth graders (4-0, 4-0 ACAC). He scored on runs of 16 and 12 yards, while also adding a 65-yard punt return touchdown.
Bailey Cox was the lead rusher for East Jay, totaling 50 yards.
Chief runners perfect
MUNCIE — East Jay’s cross country teams earned perfect scores Tuesday in wins over the Muncie Southside Panthers.
East Jay’s boys had 18 runners cross the finish line before the Panthers’ top runner for a 15-50 victory. The Chief girls also had a perfect score of 15, while Southside did not qualify for a team score.
Mitchell Winner won the boys race with his time of 12 minutes, 22 seconds. He was followed by Xavier Myers, Tyler Manor, Dustin Harris and Flint Schmiesing.
Lindy Wood won the girls race with in 13:45, finishing ahead of teammates Mara Bader, Lydia Keihn, Miranda Alig and Olivia Waters.
Eagles beat Raiders
DUNKIRK — The West Jay eighth grade volleyball team beat Southern Wells on Tuesday, 25-20, 25-19.
Abbi Kuss and Grace Morgan had six service points apiece to lead the Eagles. Kuss also had a team-high five aces, and shared the team-lead of three kills with Chloe Campbell. Lillian Clemmons and Jayden Price recorded five points each.
Demi Grove, Madison Rinker and Kinsey Shannon each had one point.
Chiefs, Stars split
The East Jay and South Adams middle school volleyball teams split on Tuesday.
East Jay’s seventh grade squad won, 19-25, 25-15, 15-9, and the South Adams eighth grade team earned a 25-17, 25-22 victory.
Kyanne Anderson had 10 service points for East Jay’s seventh graders. Madison Jetmore and Madison Dirksen had six points apiece. Dirksen had six kills and Lilly Hedges notched five. Grace Brewster totaled four digs.
Pacie Denney recorded 10 points and nine digs for the EJMS eighth graders.
Natalie Miles had five kills and Alaina Kunkler added four.
