Active Aging Week starts Sunday


Active Aging Week, for those 55 and older, will kickoff at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arthur & Gloria Muselman Pavilion, a service/outreach of Swiss Village in Berne with an Olympic theme.
There will be a torch walk, refreshments and music by Doug Milligan.
Active Aging Week activities begin Sunday and will include a shuffleboard tournament, water aerobics and water walking classes, yoga, SilverSneakers Classic classes, weight room instruction, a Survivor Triathlon that will include biking, walking and swimming, corn hole, fishing, hiking, a free lunch at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Dr. Gregory Bell, a 1956 long jump Gold Medal Olympian, a carry-in at 11:30 a.m. and a campfire and sing-along at 7 p.m., both on Sept. 29.  
A food demonstration and tasting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday and will be taught by Briana Eicher, director at the pavilion and a registered dietician.
There will be door prizes and a change to win an iPad mini.

Registration due Oct. 1
A 225th Anniversary Symposium of the Battle of the Wabash 1791, an event of the Fort Recovery State Museum, will be held in November in Fort Recovery.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Nazarene Family Center, 401 E. Boundary St.
Speakers will be John Winkler, George Ironstrack, Stephen Paper, Chris Thompson and Cameron Shriver and the day will end with a question and answer session.
Registration is required by Oct. 1, as well as a $50 refundable check.

At Fort Library
Activities are coming up in October at Fort Recovery Public Library.
Story times for babies and preschoolers and a parent or guardian will be  held at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 4 and at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28.

An Introduction to Yoga will be at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 12, and will include simple seated poses and standing poses.
Pumpkin painting for children will be held from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and again from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 11. The cost is $1 per child.

LifeStream seminars  
LifeStream Services will present an  Active Senior Seminar from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Farmland Community Center, 100 N. Main St.
Presentations will be given by Julie Hale, LifeStream wellness manager, and Lana Remaly, Randolph County Options counselor, and will focus on health, technology, safety and more.

Also LifeStream Cafes are held at 11:30 a.m. each Monday at the community center. Meals are provided for those 60 years and older, and their spouses, with a suggested donation. Those under the age of 60 can enjoy a meal for a small fee. Reservations for meals should be made at least one business day in advance by calling (765) 759-1121.
Also an Active Senior Seminar will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Maring-Hunt Library, 2005 S. High St. in Muncie.
The seminar will be on Cell Phone Success, with participants learning how to use their smartphone and other devices.

Geneva event
The Bicentennial Torch will arrive in Adams County at approximately 4 p.m. on Sept. 30. It will then be carried to the Limberlost Cabin in Geneva, then to the fire station and then to the covered bridge in Ceylon before being passed to representatives in Berne.
There will also be an ice cream social in downtown Geneva from 4 to 7 p.m.
