Arts Place to have annual gala in Oct.

Arts Place will host its Annual Gala in October
The evening will begin with the annual meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, with Ken Bantz speaking and later performing in Goodrich Hall during the reception. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. and a cash bar will be available.
The art work of Katherine Fries “Objects in Memory” will be on display in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery and entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m. with Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo performing in Goodrich Hall.
The cost for the reception is $25 and will also include one alcoholic beverage. Please RSVP by Sept. 30.
Tickets for Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo are on sale at artsland.org for $18 for adults and $9 for students.

Violin lessons
A new MusicWorks instructor will be giving violin lessons at Arts Place.
Melissa Knutson will begin Intro to Violin on Friday, Oct. 7, and lessons will continue each Friday through Dec. 16. Classes will meet from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
The cost is $35 and scholarships are available based on financial need. Registration forms can be found online at artsland.org, at Arts Place at 131 E. Walnut St. or by calling (866) 539-9911.
Knutson performs with regional orchestras and theatre productions and is a student at Taylor University.
To celebrate
Jay County Public Library will celebrate 20 years at its current location at 315 N. Ship St. in Portland. The library was dedicated on Oct. 26, 1996 and the bond for the financing of the building was paid off earlier this year.
There are 20 special activities, events and displays planned in honor of the celebration and they will be held on 20 weekdays from Oct. 17 through Nov. 11.
Some of the first activities include a Selfie Safari and Photo Scavenger Hunt on Oct. 17. For more information, visit the library.
